I realize that Elton is such a huge star that he is unlikely to be harrassed or arrested, but still that took balls. I wonder if the Russian government will ask Elton to leave or just wait until he does and then make a statement. Will be interesting to see what happens. But, in any event, major props to him for making such a strong statement in Moscow itself. I heard an interview with Elton a month or so ago on NPR and they asked him about his upcoming trip to Russia. He knew it was dangerous for him to go but felt he couldn't turn his back on his fans and his community there. I was really impressed by him in so many many ways. Bravo Elton! |

I watched about 15 mins, so my impression is very limited, but it seemed to me the acting was horrible all around, not just Carrie...but blaming her for taking the role is probably a bit misplaced. Someone had the idea she would SELL and others approved and hired her - those are the people who bare the responsibility IMO. It would be interesting to see the numbers and their progression over the whole time slot. I am sure her fans loved the show, and supposedly she has lots of fans... As far as comparison with Adam-Freddie situation I totally agree. The difference is that Adam is a better singer than Freddie and he has formidable stage presence, where as comparing Carrie to JA is silly - either as an actress or as a singer.... IMO both Adam and Carrie ARE BRAVE taking on their respective roles... I do not think Adam and Carrie have anything in common and the situation is quite different. I watched the last 45 minutes of SOML and I believe that Carrie's management did her a big disservice letting her do this show. She is neither a stage performer or an accomplished actress -- and it showed. She was not equipped to pull this off. There are many people who could have played this role and who have the training and background. Even some who are famous enough to "star" in a production like this -- Lea Michele, Anne Hathaway, and so on. But I think the entire idea was a bit braindead -- people "love" the movie version of SOM, not the stage version. And looking at Twitter, most people do not even know the show. >> It will be forgotten by many in a day or two -- except that no one is recruiting Carrie for a Broadway show. On the discussion of Freddie vs. Adam -- I think they are incomparable but "better" is a meaningless term to me. What does that mean? Better at what? I have seen both perform many times, and the only comparison I will make is that Adam is taller than Freddie. A live performance of a well loved musical was something challenging and unique for TV. I am sure the hope was that this uniqueness was going to be a big draw, and that hope paid off for the network it seems.

I wonder if many very famous folks go to Russia and openly show their support for gay rights and are pretty much too important to sue or
arrest will the Russian anti-gay laws become meaningless ,without any teeth?Or will it just effect Russians and not foreigners
Will there be a two tier law, one for the rich and powerful and one for just average citizens?

The thing is and I may be wrong,if the characters are all from the same country,in this case Austria,shouldn't they all have a similar accent? Maria (Carrie)didn't have an English accent she had an American accent. It's like watching a movie and everyone has a different accent ,even though their characters are supposed to come from the same country.LOL :  |
