I don't think anything - from football and baseball, to NASCAR and music can be fairly or accurately compared to the same thing of 30-40-50 years ago. Too much has changed. Adam is making his way in a whole new world of music. To my mind, no such comparisons are legitimate. It always makes for good and interesting conversation, but that's about it, IMO.

talon - I understand every single word you say . And I really do agree with a lot of your points. Maybe saying "Freddie wipes the floor with Adam" is a rude expression but I can see why you are saying this. Adam is this unique, wonderful and raw singing-diamond which needs a superior band and matching songs to become iconic. And I hope from the bottom of my heart that one day he will find these fellow musicians that will make his true genius shine!!! That would be the fulfillment of my greatest wish. Queen was this coincidentally meeting of a few geniuses and talents like Brian, Roger and Freddie. They lifted each other up to become far better than one alone of them could ever have. This is what makes Queen so exceptional and iconic.
and please don't forget John too.. I love the four of them

I say if we're going to compare Adam and Freddie let's compare them singing with the same band at the same venue. This first video is Queen/Freddie Hammersmith 1975 and is a full performance. They've been performing together for over 4 years and have at least 3 albums and have been touring together. I believe this is a professional recording. www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2Maw3bSXpcThis next video is Queen/Adam Hammersmith 2012 and is a full performance. They had ten days of practice and this is their 6th performance after the 10 days practice. This is recorded by someone in the audience with a camera or cell phone. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejoecEszxqoI just have this to say: THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL FREDDIE WIPES THE FLOOR WITH ADAM...NO WAY!

For me John always has been for Queen what Ringo has been for the Beatles. I know that it isn't true and that I may be totally wrong here, because John is a wonderful songwriter and maybe a genius as well. But I don't want to put him in the same league as Brian, Roger and Freddie.

pssssst... I read that too... pssssst... don't tell anyone
Did Adam rent the condo or did he buy it? If he rented, then he is moving again to another place? Wonder if it is back to a house. Or if he is buying a place. I can't imagine that he is moving to another city unless something major is happening.
If he's moving out again I'm so glad he did it. His neighbor can hear when he does some warm up with his voice.. I think moving in to that condo's just temporary after his contract for the house expired.

Adam gets $250K for one performance -- he has to pay the band and a few other expenses. So he safely clears $120K a concert. More for the concerts in Asia. He did not tour extensively this year, but he did enough concerts to be in excellent financial shape. Performances (20+ concerts), royalties, Glee guest star, appearance fees, he is doing fine. And, next up is a new record deal. From what we know of Adam's finances, he is very conservative. I think (guessing) the apt move was part of downsizing because he was going to be single again. He and Sauli moved in January 2013. In early April, Adam said the breakup was in the works for a couple of months. So just my thought, but it seemed like a transitional most to me. Regarding the boots, the Biloxi concert will pay for his boots for the next 5 years and jackets too!! I like to think my money is going for important causes! Are you sure Adam gets $250K for every single one of these concerts? I calculate that the total box office take for Biloxi will be about $100K, maybe slightly more, if totally sold out. How can they afford to pay Adam $250K? The Hard Rock's hotel was already sold out when the concert was announced, so they are not making any money there. Every concert attendee would have to spend another $150 on Hard Rock property for the Hard Rock to break even. I know I am not. As I understand concerts at casinos, they are loss leaders. People do spend, especially with gambling. They would lose money on you and me but I don't think we are typical! Anyone, Q3? know more.

I love this representation of Adam vocal range -- and the use of "Runnin" which is my fav track from Trespassing. I do too. Thanks Eri9, for this chart. Now, if I may add to this discussion, if you think of the traditional ranges for classical singers: Tenor (highest of the male voice ranges) : C3 - C5 Alto (lowest female range) : E3 - E5 (E is two white keys higher than C) Mezzo Soprano: G3 - G5 (another two keys higher than E) Soprano: all the way up to C6
Then you can see, that Adam covers the complete tenor range, the complete alto range, the complete mezzo soprano range and he sings way into the upper ranges of the soprano range.
There are many classically trained singers who have a 3 octave range, even though their parts only require the usage of a part of what they have. But there are not many men, whose range sits as high as Adam's and yet they still sound masculine.
It is fascinating to me to see right now the comparison to Kurt, who also has a very high voice, but sounds more female in tonality, and I am looking forward to hearing the J. Hawkins song sung by the two of them, because it should show their range as well as skill, their tonality and how they each choose to use their voices for this particular song. I think it will be quite interesting, at least I hope so. Adam has choices on HOW he employs his voice, he can sing with many different kinds of tonalities, even in a high range like E5 or F5, and he has full control over them, and therefore can use them at liberty, as interpretive tools. I don't believe that Kurt has that ability, even though he can sing beautifully.
Now, Freddie had quite a bit of this ability too. His variety lay more in his lower register though, not so much high up, where Adam has it, and yes, it is probably true that his range is in total bigger than even Adam's, even though that chart that was posted yesterday of 12 or so singers, does imo not show either Freddie nor Adam correctly. Eri9's chart here is what I have so far heard from Adam as well. The other chart has inflated ranges for quite a few singers, not sure what they are using as their basis. It's fine, if all you want to show that Adam can swim with all the big fish, but I think, that is where the usefulness of that chart ends.
To add my 2 cents worth on the Freddie discussion. I do think that in a purely technical evaluation, Adam would win, win actually all categories except range, imo, even those others that Q3 listed and gave to Freddie, but strangely, ultimately it does not seem to matter, even in my own mind. Freddie is brilliant, top of the vocalist world for me, and now Adam manages to be his equal, without being the same. His career, of course, is so far still much smaller, and so we will have to see how it all materializes, because I believe that it will. Adam has many years to go. Outside of stage persona and singing, I just have a fondness for Adam in my heart, that I have never had for Freddie. Freddie had my respect, but not really my love, sorry. Freddie's media/interview personality comes across as strange, cocky and gruff, Adam is delightful. How, they are in private, we of course don't really know, but everyone says how much they love Adam, if they get to work with him, so I think, what we are seeing, is really what those who know him closer, get to see as well.
His social and cultural influence is without question and will only grow from here. Freddie, on the other hand has been a brilliant songwriter and has established himself in many ways too. The two stand for me side by side, even if on some technical evaluation, I do see how Adam wins the sing-off. It does not translate for me into how much I appreciate the voices, because, I have at many times, thought to myself: Adam sang this so beautifully, nobody can do that better, and then gone and compared to Freddie, and I loved that version just as much. They are just both brilliant.
Adam's an extrovert and very social person, while Freddie's the exact opposite of Adam. Freddie was a very private and shy person, he even didn't always open himself up to Brian & Roger.

Just chiming in a bit on the conversation from yesterday. It's one I try to stay a little bit out of - especially on this board but I felt a bit compelled to write on the who is better - Freddie/Adam. Thanks for your input, Talon, and I agree with a lot of what you said. I've loved Freddie long before Adam came along, and I love them both equally. Yes, Freddie is iconic and Adam is not there yet, but I have have hopes for him to get there one day. I really appreciate your input and and occasional reality check! Always good to hear from you!!
I love your post. It's like you're me.. LOL and off course I agree with you and talon
