talon - I understand every single word you say . And I really do agree with a lot of your points. Maybe saying "Freddie wipes the floor with Adam" is a rude expression but I can see why you are saying this. Adam is this unique, wonderful and raw singing-diamond which needs a superior band and matching songs to become iconic. And I hope from the bottom of my heart that one day he will find these fellow musicians that will make his true genius shine!!! That would be the fulfillment of my greatest wish. Queen was this coincidentally meeting of a few geniuses and talents like Brian, Roger and Freddie. They lifted each other up to become far better than one alone of them could ever have. This is what makes Queen so exceptional and iconic.

Thanks for taking the time Talon, appreciate your point of view.
The graphic visual of Adam's range made it accessible to me. Gratitude!
Runnin' will always be my favorite song on Trespassing, though Shady is a close second.

At the risk of throwing napalm on this whole discussion I'll chime in to say that as much as I love Freddie I actually think Bono is a better front man than Freddie. LOL But not a better singer in terms of pure vocal ability. However his ability to fully inhabit a song is to me much better. In pure vocal ability I think Adam wipes the floor with all of them but of course he hasn't quite reached their level of showmanship or their legacy. But he is also just getting started. Bono and Freddie developed their stagecraft and legacy in time just as Adam will.
Another thing that is ignored is the difference in the dynamics of a solo artist performing with a backing band and that of a band with a front man. Adam an amazing solo artist and performer but I would submit that Adam performing with Queen tends to be much less of a true front man. He is very conscious of their legacy and therefore I don't believe he really turns himself loose in the way that he would if he were truly fronting his own band. So I'm not prepared to say that we have truly seen Adam as a front man.

Talon, I'll add my thanks for your "long rambling post" too. I agree, I like hearing opposing viewpoints, as long as it's reasoned and willing to change or disagree amicably. So - can anyone suggest any song from the last 5 years or so (of any genre) that you feel will reach (or has already reached!?!) an iconic or legendary status? I have too little knowledge to comment. (PLEASE don't suggest the Fox song or Gentleman. I think my head would implode. Apologies to those who really like them... but, but, but..... words fail me.... )

Woohoo, the German TV station "ZDFKultur" just broadcasted Adam's Glamnation live concert on TV again! Of course I watched it for the umpteenth time!!! A wonderful feeling, when you know it's on TV and not the DVD that you are watching ...!!!

Thanks for listing those criteria, Hoist. That was quite interesting to me.
One of the (many, many) things I have noticed (can you use the word "noticed" as a cover when you actually mean "obsessive viewing?") about Adam is his exceptional posture.
Because of his focus on the technicalities of singing, I choose to think that his graceful, erect (yep, I'm twelve) posture is cultivated to improve his art. I think he is innately blessed with a body that is (*perfect*), those shoulders! that height!. But his posture is so noticeable when he is around other people. He holds himself proudly. And it is amazing how much it enhances his body. Maybe Mom was right with all those admonitions about posture!
Plus it fits in with my admiration for his (as I see it) total dedication to this wonderful gift he has been blessed with, and to the art he lives.
Another example for me of his focus on the technicalities is his exquisite pronunciation. Boy do I respect that. Just as a point in case, not judging, really, but I saw Allison live and while I do enjoy her voice I honestly could not understand the words she was singing.
IMO, Adam is that absolutely heavenly combination of a singer using devoted training, dedication to the art, understanding of the emotion of a song and innate ability to form a rock solid basis for anything, absolutely anything he wants to sing. Because that foundation will always show through and define his singing, IMO. Again, all in my humble opinion, not educated musically at all, but in Adam's case, boy do I know what I like!
So thanks again, Hoist, I really enjoy hearing about the technical reasons for defining what is exceptional in a singer. It helps me to see what work he has put into his craft, how he respects his gift, how it is admirable that someone with a natural talent honors that talent with hard work.
And all I have to do it sit back and be moved and amazed at how he reaches down inside me and creates emotion. He can move me to tears, he can make me joyous, he can make me feel sensual.
And I am not even mentioning his wit, charm, devotion to family and friends. And his moves. He is, as Paula said 4 years ago, the total package. *oops, twelve again*
So happy to be a fan.

psst.. Adams condo is for rent shhh pssssst... I read that too... pssssst... don't tell anyone
Did Adam rent the condo or did he buy it? If he rented, then he is moving again to another place? Wonder if it is back to a house. Or if he is buying a place. I can't imagine that he is moving to another city unless something major is happening.

So maybe there will be something going on after next February
