Eventually the U.S. Supreme Court will have to make a similar ruling, and precedence pretty much demands that they rule that marriage equality must exist in all states.  In 1967, the Court ruled unanimously that Virginia's law against interracial marriage was unconstitutional, with Chief Justice Earl Warren writing,  "Marriage is one of the 'basic civil rights of man, fundamental to our very existence and survival.... To deny this fundamental freedom on so unsupportable a basis as the racial classifications embodied in these statutes, classifications so directly subversive of the principle of equality at the heart of the Fourteenth Amendment, is surely to deprive all the State's citizens of liberty without due process of law. The Fourteenth Amendment requires that the freedom of choice to marry not be restricted by invidious racial discrimination. Under our Constitution, the freedom to marry, or not marry, a person of another race resides with the individual and cannot be infringed by the State."

Since the Court has already struck down the Defense of Marriage Act, it seems to me that the next logical step is to declare state laws against same-sex marriage to be unconstitutional and the parts of Warren's statement that I bolded above should have to be extended to sexual orientation.  I hope this ruling comes sooner rather than later.  It's ridiculous that two people can be considered married in one state but not married if they move to another state.  We're the United States of America, not 50 different countries.
