Managed to get weighed today. Lost .2...not too exciting, but I'll take it.

How do you know what your body fat % is? On that same site are several useful tools that I use. Click tools in the header to go to the page with all of them. There are 3 different Body Fat calculators. I use the Military Body Fat calculator as I have been told it is usually the most accurate but you could use all 3 and average them if you want. I also use the BMR calculator which gives you figures for two different formulas. The Katch-McArdle formula is considered to be the more accurate one but they will usually be withing 100 calories of one another.

I find it hard to believe the Military one is the most accurate given the fact that it uses the least number of measurements. Interesting that the "body fat" and the "Covert Baily Body Fat" gave me almost the same result (o.3%difference) where as the Military was a full 3% more... in any case I seem to fall into the "normal/healthy" category...good to get that confirmed! scotia - keep at it! every little bit counts!

I think the problem would be that some of those other measurements are of areas of the body where changes can be due to edema. I believe I read that one way to determine which is most accurate for you in particular is to track all three for a while and the one that fluctuates the least is the most accurate. I think the other two calculators use measurements that are more vulnerable to being thrown off by water retention or edema.

I see... well, since I don't have edema I will take those two as the better indicators for me, especially that they give me a "better" number. Also, none of the calculators are interested in the boobs size for some reason, and in my case they are contributing to my weight very nicely

Oh yeah, it's Wednesday. I am down a pound. Paid a little more attention to my numbers this week. Learning that in order to eat the way I want I just need to make sure to keep my activity up a little. When I'm lazy I have to be a little more careful.

Great tools, Rihannsu. I don't go that in depth, I really don't have the time to get into that, or the inclination I guess, plus I don't do the cooking around here, so harder to control that, so mostly work on portion control. Keep lunch to a light lunch with yoghurt/fruit/some raw carrots, and have a bit bigger meal in the evening. Mentally keep track of my food intake, and have a really good idea how I'm doing with that, and have my fitbit to keep track of my activity. Also have days when I go over, and other days when I'm well under on the calorie intake vs. activity level.
Back down 1 lb. this week. Really going to push this next week to get back to the 50 lbs. level as I've been jojoing between 47 and 50 lbs. Still have those last 10 lbs. to lose when I'm back at 50, and that would take me to just under 140, at 5'5" tall, which I think is a reasonable weight also for my age. That belly fat is the biggest problem to lose, and I'm limited in the kind of exercising I can do because of back issues.
I'm so glad Jablea started this Shaping Up section, it has certainly helped me and several others, so thank you!!

Ahhh, thanks fiercelier. It's been my pleasure to act as host. I've found commitment to the threads even if I haven't quite been able to translate it to my lifestyle yet. I was in an upward spiral and anymore, even though I haven't been much on the losing side, I have at least been able to maintain and there are definitely things that I have changed for the better and a lot of things I have learned. You guys are great inspiration.
Hope to see you and other shapers at Vancouver.

Stayed steady this week, but that is a good thing. Still trying to work out the best path for me. Doing better on the exercising, slowly!! Things are evolving.
