This is odd. Why would Wetpaint today write a post referencing a Forbes article written a year ago, Jan. 30, 2013. Because they are looking for clicks and Idol stories. They do not have any real way to account for licensing, merchandising and online revenue etc, etc. And for a performer like Carrie who tours with very advantageous deals, even the touring income is off. |

rama, at Adam's last two concerts in Biloxi and Winstar, he sang Is This Love. I thought it was odd, since it's the middle of winter and it's more of a summer song, which he sang because he said it was one of his parents' favorites. As you might know, the label still releasing Marley's timeless music is Island Records UK. In the U.S., it operates as a division of The Island Def Jam Music Group. And as someone else also mentioned, this is Avicii's label. AND he sang Lay Me Down for the first time at these 2 concerts. Parent company, UMG. I think you are on to something that might be very close to the happy news that Adam wants so much to share with us..Someday  Is This Love has been part of the set list all year. He teams it with OOL. I don't think it means anything. Q3, the Island Records theme rumor, for the people I know who believe it, has not come from anything an intern has done. It mostly started because of Adam's follows on twitter and artists he has tweeted about and supported. The fact that Barry heads it helps also. That Forbes list 2 pages back is old, BTW. It is from the year he was off and does not include Trespassing sales. New list should be out soon. I had my tongue in my cheek about the intern -- I should have added a wink smilie -- but that Twitter account is not managed my anyone who would know anything about anything. And the AL-IR follows are also at the same time Island was promotion AVICII's debut album. Anyone managing social media for IR would know that if you get a follow from Adam Lambert, you follow back. I would be shocked if Barry Weiss (for anyone who does not know who Barry is -- current Chairman & CEO of The Island Def Jam Music Group and Universal Republic Records; formerly Chairman of RCA/Jive Label Group when Adam was signed and who met with Adam about his debut album and attended Adam's birthday party while they were both at RCA) was actively involved in any A&R activity at Island Records -- even with an artist he knows from RCA. He is leading the reorganization of 2 of UMG's mainstream pop/rock/urban label groups. (The other 2 are Interscope-Geffen-A&M and Capitol Music Group.) He is battling to build profits in a very difficult market. I just can't see it happening. He is basically running about half of UMG. I would not be shocked if Adam was signed by IDJRG -- it would be a good place for him. I think it is just as likely, however, that Adam could be signed to Capital Music Group (home to Katy Perry) or Warner Music Group (home to Bruno Mars). And I can construct a really good scenario for Adam signing with an Interscope/Geffen label. It appears that Adam/his management is working hard to keep a lid on whatever he has planned and he is smart enough to know that his fans will analyze every tweet. Yes, he has tweeted artists who are signed to IDJRG but he has also tweeted support for artists signed to other labels -- including K$sha who is with RCA, Lady Gaga (Interscope), many of his friends like Sam Sparro, etc. Adam is very smart about promotion, but I think he has learned from DMG and Shoshanna/Edge that the teasing and sharing with fans for so far in advance of the release of Trespassing eroded his promo power and buzz when he finally released his lead single. All in all, my money is that we will know by the end of the month -- I hope this is why Shoshanna is heading to LA at the end of January. Shakira has a new single (duet with Rihanna) and an album release in early 2014 but she is not based in LA. Britney is in Las Vegas. Daft Punk is in Europe. Edge has a lot of clients but I think this LA trip might finally be for Adam. |
