Q3, I love your take on Starchild auditioning for Idol. That would have been something! In real life, tho', I don't think he would have made the cut. He would have been one of those wierd contestants they show as comedy. Even with that voice, there is no way they would have put him thru, IMO.
Adam, through experience auditioning, thru social intelligence, thru instinct or thru luck did just the right things to be put thru. Broadway or musical theater folks and classicallly trained singers almost never make it through AI auditions. The producers of course recognize that they are accomplished singers with great voices, but they are not the "type" Idol casts. Not the right voice type or sound, not the right back story, and not the "plucked out of nowhere with no training/experience" meme that the show focuses on. But Adam got thru, I think, because he didn't sing Broadway. He showed his chops alright, but on a pop and classic rock number. He also was saavy about his look; a little edgy, a little goth, a little emo, but mostly still boy next door. Not enough alternative look to be threatening, but enough to be interesting and different.
His look was intriguing for TV, his voice was stellar, and his personality sunny, approachable, and dedicated but not cray cray. He wouldn't have made it on his voice alone, his look alone, or his personality alone, but the combination caught the producers' attention enough to cast him. Then, his professionalism and performance instincts convinced the producers to let him "go with it" with costuming, staging, song choice, arrangements and overall appearance.
IMO, Adam played the game incredibly well. His goal was not to win a title. It was to show America and the suits what he could do, what kind of artist he could be, what variety they could choose from, what directions he could and they could go in. It was also to keep America interested week after week, voting him thru to see just what he would do the following week. Like Sheherazade telling a different story every night to stay alive.
Starchild, as fun and outrageous and talented as he is, wouldn't have made it thru auditions. Adam Lambert did. (Tho I admit I amstill amazed that the producers took that risk or even recognized what they had. I haven't seen much other evidence that they are perceptive or appreciate talent and creativity, much less a great voice. But, that is another story.)
However it all came together, but what combination of fate, luck, hard work, talent, serendipity, and grace of the rawk gods, I will forever celebrate Jan 20th, and chill when I hear "Mama".

I always felt it was a very close call anyway ... I got adamized in 2010 and even in hindsight trembled if they (AI) would take that jump ... But as you say above, Adam was what they could work with well and then he invented his own TVpersona, his own place ... and we are the better for it, PS: Starchild is a sketch for an alternate reality, if the times and business had been different he would have rocked the world/US, but I still feel it is the past. Glee is great, I love it, but is seems a bit .. dated .. in terms of AFL career if you know what I mean?

I do know one thing, if Adam doesn't get to spill his secrets soon, HE is going to burst! Love seeing him so happy and excited!

OMG! Water tower is playing No Boundaries by @adam Lambert! I was just relaxing before shopping and heard that familiar voice :-) It took me a while to recognize the song though. Never heard Adam played here before.

Never heard Adam played here before. See, this is case, where location would help. I'm sorry, but water tower is not a familiar radio station, to me. So what is the range of this no Boundaries broadcast?

I actually think if Starchild really showed up for the Idol auditions, he would have made it to the judges round. Contestants who make it to the judges have to get through three quick auditions for Idol producers. Once they hears someone who could sing like that, they would have gotten him through. In reality, I think the producers might have told Starchild to change his clothes and tone it down. But he would have certainly gotten to the judges. Season 8 was the year the producers seemed to want to cast a "gay" character. They let Adam and 3 other gay contestants through -- including Nick Mitchell who auditioned with "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" (Jennifer Holliday) who performed as his alter ego "Norman Gentle". youtu.be/pJalB9vipq8But IF Starchild did make it, and if he sang like that, I think that at least 2 of those judges would have looked past the outfit -- Paula and Randy. I also think Kara (who said yes to Norman Gentle) would have said yes to Starchild. My only question is Simon, and I really think he would have said yes. I am not sure what "America" would have said about Starchild in 2009. ** In case you do not remember Norman Gentle -- here is his Top 36 performance from Idol. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4C235DD4z4IETA: QueenAI - excellent point -- it seems like Idol was a century ago! But while we wait for Adam to tell us something, I just wanted to have a bit of fun. It also was my way of reflecting on two of the many things that have helped change American attitudes about the acceptable range of sexual orientation and sexual expression -- Adam on Idol and GLEE -- both born in 2009, and by an odd cosmic coincidence both joined together in 2013.

Here are Adam's two IG videos put together - Drift and Decent. (Thanks lillybet463.) youtu.be/5ALQMskNTJEAdam later deleted Decent. I think it may be because it was a typo? and he meant Descent? I also think this is a new clue. Descent = Moving downward, dropping, or falling -- my interpretation is that this is landing someplace.
