Talon, how is the Queen fandom reacting? Are they up in arms again? I checked the QOL, all as expected there, but the sample is just too small to get an idea....
Talon: I can't say they are up in arms in so much as they are resigned to the fact either way. Basically the purists know it's coming and have accepted that it's happening (and they aren't going to go). To be quite honest, Queen fandom is more interested in the studio work B&R have been doing on the FM tracks than any tour. I'm happy to hear it's a stateside tour :D

I also totally understand Brian and Roger wanting to continue performing the excellent music they created and which was such a huge part of their lives. And, not calling the group "Queen", when they ARE Queen as much as Freddie was, and they are still alive and enjoying life doesn't seem fair, either. Musicians rarely ever retire. My musician sister just did two gigs Saturday in the retirement community she was visiting in Florida. These "retired" musicians somehow find each other and form a "group" to perform wherever they are. For pay or just for the joy of performing.
If the die-hard Queen fans are uninterested in seeing Brian and Roger or in hearing their music performed by the originators (who still have the chops to do it up right!) then the fact that it is Adam singing with them is probably just an irritant, not the determining factor in their decision to stay home and watch Queen on their TVs and computers. The fact is there are many other folks who remember Queen songs from their youth with great fondness (either because they were young in the 70s and 80s or their parents played the music when they were at that impressionable age, like Adam), and they will buy tickets to hear it and see it in all its glory in 2014. So will many Adam fans. And fans of great live rock concerts in general. I am glad that Brian, Roger and Adam decided to give all of us one more opportunity to see something very special: the collaboration of musical geniuses at their finest. With great theatrics thrown in to boot. Can't wait.
I can only imagine the thrill of getting new track(s) with FM on them! I totally understand that nothing can surpass that for a Queen fan, whether they are purists or not. Hey, even I am excited!
The substitute singer as "an irritant" for a purist is also quite understandable : if I think of a concert of Adam's songs performed by someone else - I wouldn't go either (i know the "band" argument, etc...)... The thing I DON'T understand STILL, after years of discussions, is the "he is from a reality show" argument. Really puzzling to me... the argument of "didn't put the work/blood/sweat/etc" is so illogical to me that I start suspecting people with this view are intellectually challenged :D- it is either you like what you hear or you don't... as in any other art form...
In the meantime I am preparing myself to justify any expense necessary to hear them as many times as I can... and to get my kids to go too, at least in NYC...
