Was watching an Adam YT and another popped up as a suggestion when it ended. Curious, I clicked on it. It was a fan made video of Adam photos accompanied by the song "Tonight" from West Side Story. (dedicated to the intense forward motion we are all anxiously anticipating). Cute compilation, but as I listened to the vocals I thought, "It certainly isn't Adam. He would KILL that song (in a glorious way), but whoever is singing this doesn't have much of a voice. Not near what I am used to from musical theater.' When the song finished I looked at the info posted below the video and found it was a Glee version, sung by Darren Criss. Not saying this to be mean-spirited or snarky. Just to point out that there is often quite a difference between pop singers and trained theater singers. And most of the Glee kids are the former, not the latter. Cassie check out the singer I posted a bit up thread.she truly sings from some other place... Like we see Adam do so often (she's been at it a bit longer). She's very good. She can belt it out like the best of the Divas, but she can also sing it with a light, clear tone, she can caress a note as well as power it out. She has fine control over how she approaches notes and phrases and pitches. And she certainly inhabits the song with lots of feeling. I noticed while watching the Idol girls last season and this season that belting is very popular, while subtlety and control not so much. Since it is very late at night/early in the morning and I have insomnia, here is Darren Criss's version of "Something's Coming." And, here is another actor you may recognize from Chicago Hope and Criminal Minds. You may not have known that he is a SINGER/actor with a beautiful voice. Love this rendition; his tone, his control, his interpretation. What has this to do with Adam? Well, Mandy's voice has that clear, ringing, rich tone. Light but very resonant, like Adam does. Even tho Darren's voice is recorded in a studio and Mandy's is live, Mandy's sounds like it has reverb and bells and whistles added to get that tone. Just like Adam's voice sounds so good it doesn't sound like it could be live. Which sound you prefer is personal taste. |

Cassie thanks for clips. You completely nailed what blew me away about Lisa Fischer - her voice is an instrument and she is a virtuoso at shaping the music it makes. Although Adam has been singing for years I think he is also learning more and more about what he can do with his.
in movie Lisa says (paraphrasing) that it's not about being famous but about being in a sacred space with others and just singing. That that is what she described as the higher calling. When Adam tweeted out the photo of himself on the iheartradio stage as being in his "happy place" seems like that was a similar thing. To be the singer and share that relationship.
