Yay! Governor Jan Brewer has vetoed that horrific anti-gay bill in Arizona. I don't believe for a minute that she did it out of compassion for the LGBT community, but rather because she feared boycotts that would deprive Arizona of money from tourists and business conventions, but at least she killed the bill. In the words of Martin Luther King, Jr.: "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice."

kittykay said: "Straight guys often play gay, but gay guys playing straight is unique". Well, actually a lot of gay guys, some of the biggest stars in Hollywood, have played straight romantic leads. But they are or were closeted. They are actors, after all, no matter their sexual orientation. But it has always been easier to "play straight" on screen when you also "play straight" off screen. I think some of the public, and sometimes the critics, still find it hard to accept the idea of an openly gay actor playing a straight romantic role. I'm thinking of Jonathan Groff, who played vocal coach Jesse St. James on "Glee" and had a romantic relationship with the Rachel character played by Lea Michele. In this case, I don't think "the public" cared, or even knew about Jonathan's orientation. But some critics lashed him as a gay man "trying" to play straight. Jonathan does do a good job as the straight romantic "vocal" lead" opposite Idina Menzel in the animation mega-hit "Frozen". i haven't heard of any critical push-back in this case, I suppose because he's just voicing a cartoon. I do think, though, that Adam could convincingly play a straight non-cartoon leading man as he seems to have more chemistry with women than some of the closeted male stars with their big PR romances (and marriages) but who have very little heat with women on screen. I don't recall anyone having an issue with Matt Bomer playing a straight character and being gay. Neil Patrick Harris plays a hound, and no one seems to care that he is gay. Yes, I think it was an issue for movie and TV stars in the past, and still may not be the easiest path, but I think the American public is mostly over that. That said, I remember the faux outcry over the Details photos, the OUT editorial, and so on. I wonder what the "gay" influencers would say. Would OUT's Aaron Hicklin write another letter? *** I would prefer that Elliott not be part of a Ryan Murphy stunt. So far the character has been a great showcase for Adam as a actor. If the storyline is just a gotcha moment, I am not a fan of the idea. If instead, Elliott has a period of sexual identity exploration, or it is handled with some care and thoughtfulness (and great lines) -- then that might be interesting. Glee just does not seem to be the place for anything subtle. *** ETA: I guess I hope that someday this whole conversation is moot. Do I can if Kevin Spacey is gay or straight? No. I just care that I think he is an amazing actor and star of a great TV Series, House of Cards. I could add 40, 100 more actors to this list. OK I really do what to know the South Park question answer -- Is Tom Cruz gay? But beyond that, nah, I really do not care. One more mystery of the universe -- did Nathan Lane really need to "come out" in 2007? Really, no one knew?

I will be so overjoyed when one can do whatever one wants to do in life, without people caring about who they love..It's become very tired ..
I just want Adam to be happy doing what he loves to do..IMHO, He's doing better than great ...why does the excellence bar have to be lifted after his terrific performance?
Some folks always want more.... Off to bed.See ya in the AM
