3.5.14 GMA on Thurs.+Glee Recap

Yeah, I think you guys are right, Adam said 'I' in the tweet to not prematurely make the announcement, but really, Brian and Roger will be there at the GMA show. It still surprises me, that they would not have done MSG first, and then gone on GMA the next day for the broader audience, but maybe there was a conflict on Friday, or they wanted to get all the press into one day, and so it became Thursday. Given that the insiders already know, it ultimately does not matter who goes first.

What does surprise me though is that Roger and Brian have not said a bit more to address their own fan audience and alert them to all this. How many Queen fans are in the US, who have no idea that they will be on TV tomorrow? (at least we are assuming that they will be).

Somebody asked why Queen would think they can make a profitable tour selling out arenas, when last time around, their tour was not nearly sold out (not sure how profitable they were). I think, the logic is a threefold one:

    a) Tours of classic rock bands have done well in recent years, the hope is that Queen could continue along those lines
    b) Queen's music is played more now than it was 5 years ago, the music scene has turned back to a style, where they fit in
            (basically, the rap/hip-hop, soft-rock era is over and instead we are back to dance, funk, pop and theatrical performances)
    c) The promoters are probably assuming that Adam will draw his own fan crowd, and Queen will draw their fan base and also some general classic rock crowd and that these three do not overlap to such extent that it becomes immaterial, but rather can they draw on a bigger audience than last time

Some promoter clearly thought that a business case could be made for this arrangement. We do not know, who first initiated this, but my impression was always that i-heart was set up by the promoter to drum up public interest/whet the appetite for QAL and to introduce this concept to all the radio station's DJs and program directors. I always thought, i-heart was pushed, to prepare the soil for exactly such a tour as this. The bigger question for me always was, why did Clear Channel agree to their concert and to them as closing act? I presume, because the interested promoter had already engaged them at that point, but that is just speculation on my part.

In the end, somebody still needs to sit down and crunch the numbers and assess that this is a financially viable project, put a proposal together based on these numbers and hope that the parties involved will make a profit.

Clearly, the promoters and Queen think that they have  something going here, and I think, they are totally right.
Less than 10 hours, we will all know more on what it is they have cooked up.

I'm really excited for tomorrow, will probably have to check in sporadically, because 7-9 am is not a great time to sit in front of the TV, when you have school age children, and I also have a really busy day tomorrow, but I am sure that Atop and twitter is going to keep me fully informed. What a great day we have ahead of us!

Quite the firestorm on twitter this morning about the changed vocal!! :(

I just notice something odd....but makes me want one cover in the Queen + Adam concerts...Red House.

Adam covered "Red House" in Biloxi and WinStar.

Queen+PR covered "Red House" in Vancouver BC in 2006.

The only video of Queen I could find is too low quality to listen to but Brian seems to have killed the guitar part. And we know that Adam can do something amazing with the vocals on this song.

> The iHR Music Festival concert proved that Queen + Adam Lambert was more than a tribute, sing-along fest which might work in the UK but not so much in the US.

Queen + PR was not that good in my opinion. The US critics were unkind -- and once the reviews hit, they were deemed by US critic and many classic rock fans to be NOT legit/NOT worth the time or money. Brian May and the video of Freddie got consistently good reviews.

The UK critics were more fair/kind. Here is the Telegraph Review from 2006...

Adam is more suited to this music that Paul was/is.
