My interpretation of "agreed": B&R agreed to promoter(s)'s offer for the NA tour which was/were precipitated by the iHeart performance and it had nothing to do with Adam/Adam's team.
For Queen, the fact that bands like fun. continue to cite them as an influence is a tremendous source of pride, and they credit Adam Lambert for his role in bringing them into an event dominated by current radio acts.
"It’s just good to be here, it’s good to be a part of what’s happening and this is definitely what’s happening. It’s nice for us to be alive still and still able to do our thing," May told Rolling Stone. "Adam Lambert is a great channel for us. It’s great that we have Adam, because he’s a bridge almost to the new generation and a wonderful performer. It’s fantastic working with him."

Just my guess on the path -- iHeart Radio Music Festival almost certainly came from DMG who represents Katy Perry and Adam. I think it was connected to Katy's appearance.
Why not close with Katy Perry? It was too early for her to perform her new music but PRISM was going to be released in October 2013. She did Roar and Dark Horse and older hits.
>> Katy struggled with Dark Horse, she was not ready to perform a long set of new material. IMO it was a lackluster set and NOT as good as she is in concert.
>> iHR Music Festival does not book many classic acts, it is a Radio (Pop, Urban and Country + a bit of rock) promo concert.
The iHeartRadio Music Festival is co-produced by John Sykes, President of Entertainment Enterprises for Clear Channel and Tom Poleman, President of National Programming Platforms for Clear Channel Media and Entertainment. It is the biggest of the biggest radio promo concerts. iHR (owned by Clear Channel Broadcasting, Inc.) has 1,500 live radio stations from coast-to-coast including pop, country, urban, rock, talk, and college. About 70 of these stations play classic rock including Queen regularly.
>> iHR did not invite Queen to perform at iHR. They invited Queen + Adam Lambert to perform at iHR.
>> iHR has only closed a night with 1 act that involved classic era artists...Queen + Adam Lambert.
Here are the 6 past closers...in the 3 years of iHR MF...
2011 night 1 Jay-Z featuring Alicia Keys (on 1 of 14 songs), night 2 Lady Gaga featuring Sting (on 2 of 13 songs)
2012 night 1 Rihanna (14 songs), night 2 Pitbull featuring Ne-Yo (on 1 of 11 songs)
2013 night 1 Queen + Adam Lambert featuring fun. (on 2 of 10 songs), night 2 Justin Timberlake (10 songs)

There were three classic artist on the 2 day bill in 2013 --
Paul McCartney - "New" album released in the United States on 15 October 2013, now on tour.
Elton John - Was promoting "Diving Board" his new album. released 13 September 2013.
And Queen who was promoting.....? Looks like they were playing the long game.
Every artist on that bill was promoting something. My guess is this tour has been in planning for a long time. They did iHR to prove to Live Nation and the A Level venues that this is an arena act.
> The last Queen US Tour was in 1982 and not sold out. Q+PR US was not a financial success.
> Queen did not sign their new label deal with UMG until Dec 2013 -- and now they have a new album in the works. That had to be in place first. They needed a global distribution deal in the wake of the EMI breakup. They left EMI in 2010 music.yahoo.com/blogs/amplifier/big-blow-for-emi-label-loses-queen-and-major-lawsuit.html but they did not have a long term deal with UMG unitl Dec 2, 2013 www.universalmusic.com/corporate/detail/2674
I found this article from last year about Katy getting her own record label. Wouldn't an artist like Adam be a perfect first client?
www.billboard.com/articles/news/482830/katy-perry-to-launch-her-own-record-label
Now she'll add an executive title to her resume -- the pop star revealed in her Hollywood Reporter cover story that she's in the process of launching her own record label. "I'm preparing for it now," Perry said of the as-yet-unnamed imprint. "And when this record label does come to fruition, I'm going to try and avoid the things that take away any fighting chance for an artist to have financial success."
