We managed to outlive a goldfish, a hamster and a budgie, and each time I say no more pets. It's too sad. Mitzie the hamster died two years ago, and our beloved Tihomirka the birdie died two months ago and every time I peel a carrot or an apple, I start crying, they loved eating that. The hamster and the budgie, not the goldfish. I can't even imagine what it would feel like to lose a cat or a dog. I'd die. So, we are thinking of getting a cat (just don't say anything), but I prefer dogs, but our apartment is too small, but we can just get a really small dog, right. This is not going to end well, I just know it. If you are gonna go, go big! Adopt a Great Dane. They actually need/want very little exercise, and are content to be couch potatoes. They love to walk with you if you are so inclined, but are fine sitting on the couch with you watching TV. People think apartment living requires a small dog, but it really reqires a dog that is not high energy/high exercise. And the Dane has the biggest heart in the world. How to relate this to Adam? They are bigger than life, extremely huggable, gentle and kind, and very good looking. Down side to Dane's unfortunately is that if they make it past 6 yrs or so you are extremely lucky. Knew a girl who competed in obedience with Danes, she was only 4'2" so when they sat beside her in the ring their heads were about even with hers and she loved them but spoke about how heartbreaking it was to loose them. Irish Wolfhounds are another gentle giant breed that make wonderful companions. Don't know what their life span is though. Most of the larger breeds have shorter lifespans.

This is not going to end well, I just know it. [sympathetically] My current cats were born when I was pregnant with my daughter. They sat on my belly when she was inside, curled around her when I was nursing, and sleep on her bed now. If we're lucky, they may stay with us until she reaches college. Or not. One never truly knows. But they're an integral part of our home. Knowing it can't be forever doesn't change that. My parents have been slowly losing our childhood cats, and its hard. The only remaining one from that era is extremely elderly and very frail. I'll know I'll be making the drive up to dig that grave sooner rather than later. But that stupid cliché really is true: "better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all". They've provided us so much love, and despite missing them dearly when they go, we've always had furry (and scaly) friends with us. Love is such a wonderful thing. Good luck, bb. Awww:))) Such a lovely story! I think it's either going to be a third baby or a cat for us, and after your story, chances are fifty/fifty<3

Heartbreaking to lose them...certainly..but even more heart hurting to never know the loving and caring they give you. There are studies showing the life extending value of a feline pet! I have had cats as pets all my adult life...only once took on a kitten...Much prefer to adopt a young adult, preferable but not necessarily around a year old. Then you know if you are adopting a more active cat [looking for a mouser?], an independent girl cat or a loving lazy boy. What about the bonding, I thought it would be easier with a kitten? What if we adopt a year old cat and it doesn't like us? *sniff-sniff

We have a member here with Irish Wolfhounds. Don't recall who, tho'.

We do have only one couch, though:) Our place is 40 square metres, is that big enough for the Dane?

Um.....unless we can start making the pet talk Adam related, I think Q3 is gonna start eyerolling soon.
Shall we continue this specific topic on the "Member News and Advice" thread?
#yeahI'mguiltytoo
ETA: Although since one of today's main topics IS Freddie and his felines, maybe not *entirely* OT?

Oh I am in so much trouble, lol. I've been down the rabbit hole of all the old TWOP AI8 performance threads for close to 3 hours. I wasn't around for AI, so I'm finding this all so entertaining.
And here's a prophetic comment from the top 8 week:
"The situation with Adam being soooo much better than the others reminds me of the situation on SYTYCD (So you think you can dance) with Danny outshining the others with tecnique and stature only to come in 2nd. It surprised the other dancers as well."

Nica,
Love the AI recaps from TWOP. How do you get to the comments section? Please keep posting. I am loving the trip down memory lane. I didn't google Adam until late in the season so many of the pre idol stories are new to me.
