#59 “The Millionaire Waltz” (1976)
Written by Freddie Mercury.
Released on a Day at the Races December 10, 1976.
"The Millionaire Waltz" was written by Mercury about John Reid (Queen and Elton John's manager at the time). It is another multi-key and multi-metre song like "Bohemian Rhapsody", using abrupt arrangement changes and including May doing multi-tracked guitar choirs. It features a noteworthy example of John Deacon's 'lead bass' playing. The orchestration of this track is Queen at their best.
The song was performed at most Queen concerts in 1977 and 1978. The last performance was in Tokyo, Japan on February 18, 1991.

Freddie and Brian talk about "The Millionaire Waltz"
"Actually, I’d like to say that Brian did do a very good job on the actual guitars. He’s really taken his guitar orchestration to its limits. I don’t know how he’s ever going to out do that one, actually. And John played very good bass on that. I think it’s good, and we’re patting ourselves on the back again. I really think it’s worked out well, especially from the orchestration point of view. Because he’s really used his guitar in a different sort of way, I know he’s done lots of orchestrations before."

Interviewer: 'The Millionaire Waltz' must have taken a long time to do?
"Oh, yes. You've heard everything right: I think that holds the record. There's one bit in there which is sort or fairground effect in the background. I think there are three octaves for each part, and six parts. I'm not sure but there must be about 18 or 20 guitar tracks. It's a funny sound. It makes a peculiarly sort of rigis sound. I was really surprised. It sounded like a fairground organ."

“The Millionaire Waltz”
Bring out the charge of the love brigade
There is spring in the air once again
Drink to the sound of the song parade
There is music and love everywhere
Give a little love to me
(I wanna) Take a little love from me
I want to share it with you
Feel like a millionaire
Once we were mad we were happy
We spent all our days holding hands together
Do you remember my love
How we danced and played?
In the rain we laid
We could stay there for ever and ever
Now I am sad you are so far away
I sit counting the hours day by day
Come back to me
How I long for your love
Come back to me
Be happy like we used to be
Come back come back to me
Come back come back to me
Oh come back to me oh my love
How I long for your love
Won't you come back to me?
My fine friend
Take me wiz you unt love me forever
My fine friend
Forever forever
Bring out the charge of the love brigade
There is spring in the air once again
Drink to the sound of the song parade
There is music and love everywhere
Give a little love to me
(I wanna) Take a little love from me
I want to share it with you
Come back come back to me feel
Make me feel like a millionaire
About Queen and John Reid
John Reid began his music management career in 1967 as Tamla Motown label manager in the UK for EMI and set up his own company at the age of 21 with Elton John as one of his first clients. He managed Elton John for 28 years and was involved in a personal relationship for the first five year. He also was the best man at Elton’s 1984 wedding to Renata Blauel. Reid's company reportedly earned more than £73 million from John between 1980 and 1998. . Reid, 55, quit management in 1999.
Between 1975 and 1978, Reid was the manager of British rock group Queen. Queen signed 3-year management contract with John Reid. When the contract ended they parted amicably. Queen signed with Read to help get them free of Tridents Sheffield brothers and straighten out the business end of things. It was never intended as a long term relationship. Long term the band planned to take over control of their business arrangements.
Queen and John Read talk about the split
From Days Of Our Lives, Blu-Ray Bonus Features. Recorded in December 1977 about 9 months before the contract expired and in 2011.
