This is somewhat OT but I read here and on twitter that Hey Brother is still climbing the US charts, so no new single for now...OK, I went to listen to the HB on YT (and yes, curiosity killed me here ). I finally understood my DD, who is a huge EDM fan but dislikes AVICII... IMO HB is a totally shameless sell out to the US country music consumer, with a boring faux patriotic video....musically it is atrocious... and I could not find any reference to the singer on the official VEVO, so I still don't know who was singing... was it Tim himself? rant over, but at the moment I have this sinking feeling that if anything like HB is popular on our radio then Adam stands no chance... ok...backing away from the edge now... P.S. I am ready for Singer is an American bluegrass singer - Dan Tyminski (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Tyminski) "Daniel John "Dan" Tyminski (born June 20, 1967) is an American bluegrass composer, vocalist, and instrumentalist. He is a member of the band Alison Krauss and Union Station and has released two solo albums, Carry Me Across the Mountain (2000), on the Doobie Shea Records label, and Wheels (2008), on the Rounder Records label.[2] He is best known for his updated version of the song "Man of Constant Sorrow," which was featured in the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou? and won the 2001 CMA award for best single as well as a Grammy Award for best Country Collaboration with Vocals (along with Harley Allen and Pat Enright, filling out the vocals for the movie's Soggy Bottom Boys). In total, he has won 14 Grammy awards[3] for solo and collaborative projects. More recently, he was the vocalist on Avicii's international hit "Hey Brother" from the album True." Thank you, lm! I went back to the VEVO comments and had to scroll 3 pages down to find the first mention of the singer: corvus13 23 hours agosung by Dan Tyminski. Avicci needs to do a better job of crediting the singers on his records.I can't agree more, the lack of acknowledgement is disgusting (as we've discussed at length)....

Just a general comment. Most of us live pretty routines lives, either because we like it that way, or circumstances make it necessary. For artists like Adam, Avicii, and Freddie Mercury, it is just not their nature to accept the status quo. Anyone who expects artists like them to find and stay with one style of anything is bound to be disappointed. I feel really lucky to have discovered Adam, one of the greatest artists ever, and who will surely continue to amaze me the rest of my life. He has also introduced all kinds of music, etc. into my life that I would probably never have known about. I may not be crazy about all of it, but it sure is interesting! If Freddie were alive today, I'm sure he would have moved on many times from one musical genre to another. As shown in the great posts by Q3 and Talon, he was doing that from the beginning. Who knows what he would have come up with? That's why I think true Freddie fans aren't the ones who want everything like it was 30 years ago. I'm happy thrilled to have found Adam and this great little online university - learning about lots of things I wouldn't ordinarily seek out, and being continually amazed by Adam's talent, charisma, wit and everything else about him!

Great point! And this is why Adam, Avicii and Nile did LMD. Without their desire to do something new, to mix things up there wouldn't be LMD or Shady for example.

In department of musical experiment Avicii is doing exactly the same thing that every other cerative artist is doing - he don't want to do the same thing over and over again, he want to expand the boundaries of his genre of music, and his own boundaries to. How that can be called "shameless sell out" is beyond me. And I don't even start disscussion about "Lay me down" which is shameless sell out to whom? Funk or disco lovers? hmmm... let's just assume for a moment in some alternate universe genre C is the most profitable one in country R, which happens to be the largest music market in that world. Adam, who grew up in country U and is a popular artist in genre E decides to expand his horizons and produces a song in genre C, accompanied by an official video wrapped up in a huge country R flag...The music is mediocre but as long as country R's flag is waving and the country R's citizens are having their favorite drink and having their favorite food everyone is super happy....especially Adam Yes, I would say Adam sold out....

I don't follow Avicii that closely, but I doubt that his musical direction is because of wanting to succeed in another genre. He was/is doing very well as an international EDM DJ, and actually took quite a risk by departing from his standard fare. I think he's another artist, like Adam, who has all this music inside him and won't be kept from innovating. We can take it or leave it - our choice.

Sorry, you didn't sell this to me. This is seriously not a matter I joke about, because as an artist myself I heard far to often that when I'm doing this kind of art or the other I''m selling myself out, I'm not true to myself and all that crap. Contrary to popular belief artists are not that easy.

There are a few things we can do now to help Adam in the future. Go back to Rate the Music and Hit Predictor and establish yourself as a rater. Make friends with your radio station by signing up as a club member and participate. Then we already have a presence there when Adam makes his debut with A3. This is a great suggestion....I will offer a few additions -- a lot has changed in radio over the past 2 years: 1. In the US, with radio listening measurement advances and personal meters in use in all the major markets, requests are almost completely useless. They know what a measured sample of people are listening to, and who is listening, and when they switch off. So unless you live in a rural market, don't even bother with Mediabase requests anymore. And (sorry but true) the rural markets like Tupelo, MS do not matter. 2. Have fun with Rate the Music and Hit Predictor, but I think it is unlikely that these will be used for A3. 3. Register IF you actually listen to a station -- and would listen to it if Adam was never played by that station. For example, I live in Northeast Ohio, I listen to the Cleveland Top 40 station and I am their club member. I would be a member with or without Adam. 4. Online activity measurement has gotten very sophisticated. It is very unlikely that you can actually manipulate measures of popularity. 5. And maybe most important, do not post negative comments about Top 40/Pop/CHR Radio -- particularly on the high profile Social Media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.) A comment here will most likely go unnoticed. A comment on Twitter will not -- it will be used to measure social media sentiment and will be tracked. Social media sentiment measures and word-of-mouth (WOM) influence are in heavy use by the radio consultants. Honestly, all the things that we do naturally as fans, post and tweet and RT and reply about the good stuff about Adam is the best thing to do right now. *** One additional thought: There is no requirement to be an AVICII or Queen fan to post on this forum, but both are connected to Adam and both are an integral part of his musical career and both have very, very large fanbases. Ideally, the association of Adam with these two very different, very popular artists will gain him new fans. I am not asking you to change your opinion, but perhaps be a bit thoughtful about what you post publicly. Not everything needs to be posted publicly.

I'm not a fan of Avicii or Country music but I think he always releases the same singles around the world, so he's not really selling out to the US country music consumer. And IMO the lead single Wake Me Up also has country sound and he released this single around the world. It has peaked at number one in 22 countries.
