I just realized I titled today's thread "Stormy weather"! :( Unfortunately appropriate. Now Alabama is getting trashed. :( Q3....glad your house wasn't damaged in Tupelo. Hate to hear about your friend's restaurant. I'm sitting here watching the storms moving into Alabama now. There's a really nasty looking one coming in from Columbus, Ms. which puts it on a track for my neck of the woods. Hope "lightning" doesn't strike me twice. lol There are already a couple of deaths in Alabama and it's still early.

Did your friend own Vanelli's? That place (was) great. A different restaurant but Vanelli's is destroyed too and I know the owner. (I can't believe anyone here knows Vanelli's) When I visited Tupelo a few years ago I was there for two nights. Ate at Vanelli's and also the Outback that was reported destroyed. I am guessing the Days Inn where we stayed may also be gone; it was right across the street from the Outback.

Things are pretty terrible in Tupelo --I had to stop looking at the news. But we have been on the phone and online checking with friends. It is a small city so we know so many people effected by it.

Seems like the tornadoes are early this year. Big Hugs!!!!!!

Thanks Smokey... Actually, it was 3 years ago yesterday that I got hit, so this is typical for late April around here. Of course, we can have tornadoes any time, and often May is a bad month as well. I would not live in Alabama w/o a basement.

That is the exact place that the tornado went through -- from south of there all the way up to the mall is damaged. The people who were in Vanelli's and many people who lived nearby went into the huge walk-in coolers they have at Vanelli's and although the interior of the restaurant was wiped away, no one was injured. One restaurant, all the staff went in the restrooms which are often built to survive a pretty strong storm, and it was the only thing left standing. My restaurant was near the mall -- no longer mine but is gone.

This was Arkansas on 5/27/14 and Mississippi and Alabama on 5/28/14.
