I'm just curious what a professional singer does on tours (such as the upcoming QAL)to keep their instrument in good condition. I have no worries re Adam's voice - none whatsoever. But, is there a tried and true method that most singers practice during long engagements (Broadway, for instance, as well as tours)? Besides good training & technique, if we can go by Adam's interviews, he has said, rest, plenty of water, Throat Coat tea, less talking! I have heard others say lots of water too. Notice how often we see pics of him with a bottle of water in his hand! Ditto what she said. The most important of which is good technique. If you are singing correctly, with the proper placement and breath support, and without pushing or straining your voice, but letting your body's natural resonance provide the power (something you have to learn through training and drill), you don't stress the vocal cords and risk injury. If a singer doesn't have that technique and training, and if they are constantly pushing their voice for high notes and for power, damage to the cords is almost inevitable. Yes to lots of water. Also, to not drinking alcohol and singing, as the alcohol dries out the throat. Adam is pretty good about that most of the time. And rest/sleep is very important. Even if Adam had the energy to go out partying all night after shows, it would be unwise because of the effect on his voice. Some singers get neurotic about caring for their voice, but proper technique, rest, and hydration go a long way toward keeping the voice healthy.

Just want to say that Hammer to Fall is close to, if not, my favorite Queen song. I am not going to any of the shows, but would be so happy if I got to see that one on video.

Cassie, a question for you! When we see Adam drinking tea during a show, do you think that means his throat is not feeling 100% or do you think it is just normal. Educated guess?

It's a great song, mehitabel, and this "headbanger remix" posted by Talon is going into my travel mix. Can't thank Talon and Q3 enough for all the music and info they are providing pre tour.

I love the show, To the Best of Our Knowledge on Wisconsin Public Radio. This morning was an interview with Brad Bell and Jane Espenson about their internet series, "Husbands." www.ttbook.org/wprplayer/popup

He has a cup of tea so often during shows I think it is prophylactic. He wants to keep his cords lubricated and loose. I'm pretty sure the boy carries around throat coat tea bags in his pockets or bag wherever he goes, as we have seen him drink it during interviews as well. Can't think of a down side except that it tends to raise the blood pressure slightly, so it is not recommended for folks who already struggle with high blood pressure.
