IMO the only song Adam compares or dare I say is better then Freddie, is WWTLF. Adam is simply incredible with that song, he evokes the same emotion, and seems to understand the lyrics and the purpose Freddie was intending, without copying Freddie. Adam has always employed his own unique interpretation, he has managed to strike a balance of respecting the legacy of Freddie, but also bringing something new to the table. I don't neccesarily agree re GM, alot of reasons for that. Vocally I Think Adam has a stronger voice then GM, more adept in the low to high range, Adam can just go low to high so quickly, almost immediately. I think Adam lately has shown a more rock voice, then just theatrical. I also think Adam excells on some performances in London in 2012 on We Will Rock You, their was one performance that was just phemoninal almost Freddie lvl. I think its this one.

Omigosh! I've been so wrapped up in Adam all these years I'd forgotten how long it's been since the last book. With my fading memory I don't relish the thought of rereading 6000 pages to refresh my memory. (Won't happen.) It was great when I started reading - there were already 3 or 4 books, but now with years between them... Would love to have you dm me after your weekend - Is Diana G. going to be there? She seems like a fun person. Have a great time! Yes she will be there to personally sign our book and she is also the keynote speaker. I assume you know that Outlander is going to be a series on Starz beginning in August so we are getting some previews of that. I love the Outlander series, and I'm so excited about the Starz mini series coming in August! youtu.be/YA0aaz8EXRI

A bit late to the conversation but I'm going to be a voice in the wilderness and state that I really love Adam's interpretation of Somebody to Love. Is one of the songs from Kiev concert that I regularly rewatch. His vocals in it are just insane and watching Bri's face at times he is obviously kind of awestruck too. Is one of the reasons I was soooo bummed that they gave that song to Nate at iheartradio - they could have let him sing Fat bottomed girls buy himself and I'd have been perfectly happy LOL. Oh well to each his and her own.
And I agree re Adam now has ownership of WWTLF - his version is one others probably will and should be judged on :-)

I think Adam has done the definitive version of 2 Queen songs - WWTLF and "Dragon Attack" which considering how big "Freddie's footprints" are is pretty amazing.
There is one song he sings brilliantly, TSMGO, that will always be about Freddie. But I think that by the end of the upcoming tour he will also have the definitive live version of TSMGO.
It is interesting that WWTLF, DA and TSMGO were all written by Brian.
There are some other other Brian songs - WWRY, for example - that I think Adam does a great job on.
**
I don't see how anyone but Freddie can "own" STL -- no matter how well it is ever sung. Some of the songs Freddie wrote are like this -- built around his piano style which was quite unique and his voice and his spirit.
Freddie wrote some deceptively hard to sing songs - WATC is a demanding song -- and there are a ton of bad covers to prove it. I think Adam does this one really well -- particularly the beginning....
I've paid my dues Time after time. I've done my sentence But committed no crime. And bad mistakes ‒ I've made a few. I've had my share of sand kicked in my face But I've come through.
The more "derivative" Freddie songs, like CLTCL which is basically an Elvis song, are much easier for someone else to sing.
Over the breadth of the Queen catalog I think Adam is as good as any living singer and performer for the job of moving from ABTD (funk) to WWTLF (power rock ballad) to WWRY/WATC (classic rock anthems) to STL (gospel).

I so love the interaction between Adam and the audience when he sings STL ...pure fun and joy !! And the absolute love and respect that I feel emanates from Roger, Dr Bri and Adam for each other. When I watch the various concerts it's as if they are all, musicians, crew, ALL, in a bubble of happiness!!!!

I was never a Queen fan when they were at the peak. I had nothing against them. It was just not the type of music I was listening to at the time. Of course I had heard Bo Rhap, WWRY, WATC, and AOBTD. As for the rest of the repertoire, I couldn't have named a song. If I heard a song I couldn't have told you it was Queen.
Therefore, I had few expectations for how Queen SHOULD sound. Queen + Adam Lambert became my "standard." With his exceptional vocal skills, I think he sounds great on just about every song. If I had to give an opinion on which were the weakest, I would have to admit that there is something about the chorus of WATC that he struggles with. The line "and we'll keep on fighting to the end" straddles his passaggio (the natural spot where his voice breaks registers), he sounds like he is having trouble belting some of those notes with strength, or that he is unsure whether to sing them with chest or head voice.
The other song is STL. I love his campy interpretation, facial expressions and all. I love the pounding tympani and the rolling 6/8 rhythm in the middle. But when Adam goes for those showy high notes Freddie did in falsetto on the studio recording his pitch is off. I don't understand why, but it is obvious he cannot hear himself on those notes, as his sense of pitch would click in and correct the notes if he heard them. Adam is not adding those notes as riffs. They are there in the recording I heard of their music video. Most other singers do not try them live, tho'. Perhaps Adam should not either, if he cannot get the sound right to hear them clearly.
As for comparing Freddie's versions to Adam's, I have realized that it is best not to. They may be similar in spirit, but they are very different in execution. It is probably not fair to either one to compare an exceptional untrained singer to an exceptional trained singer. We are talking apples and oranges.
The one thing I am sure of is that Queen + Adam Lambert will put on a breathtaking show, and Adam will sound AMAZING.
