I can understand that :D Freddie ruined everyone for me. I like George's take > Adam's take...but note I don't want a Queen + GM tour like some people do...based on one song I think I would far prefer adam's WWTLF/TSMGO and others much more than GMs...and even though I'm not always sold on Adam's rock voice, I'm definitely sold on it far more than GM. wiga - I was also very impressed with GM's performance, and went back to watch it again. I had exactly the same reaction you did after Adam had performed it. talon - I think Adam could do fewer riffs on STL - clean it up just a bit. I think, though, after actually watching a couple performances, there is such real joy as he performs it, it makes me happy (and Brian, too!) to see him sing it, even if it could be a little more perfect. Wouldn't it be something if we all loved our jobs like he does?! for me - the more riffs the better! I LIVE for those SOARING moments! it's such a turn on!

) ... I have no idea what flaws you found in Adam's STL... it was as perfect as everything else I don't know if FLAW is the best word choice. I just didn't like some of his approaches. It's hard to explain. I just wasn't wowed. *shrugs* My favorite version is always either Queen in Montreal or in Milton Keynes. Just a wonderful version. Marc's version, well, to me is "Freddie Lite". Marc is a good singer, but in this video he seems like a pale ghost of Freddie, which makes me want to listen to Freddie instead of him. If you're going to sing STL, you'd better match Freddie (probably impossible) or bring something else to the party. Whether or not you like George or Adam's take on Queen songs, at least they are talented, distinctive singers who put their own stamp on a song. Thanks again for all of your Queen posts, Talon. I've spent many happy hours in your Queen thread. Probably should have thanked you sooner. Your efforts are much appreciated. I'm really glad they are appreciated! I'm so happy to bring the music to people who haven't experienced it yet! As for Marc, I wanted to comment on that. You have to remember that Marc is singing for the official tribute band. The reason he got the gig was (at least partially) because his voice has some resemblance to Freddie's. SO he *IS* trying to sound like Freddie and matching up his performance to boot. It's a different ballgame. When he sings his own material it sounds different....so while it may be a bit Freddie-lite, it's partially due to not trying to take much of an original take on the material...it's supposed to be nostaligc

He seems like he is having the time of his life on stage, and he wants the audience to feel the same sense of joy. I think that is one of the reasons why his concerts are so great. After the first GNT concert that we attended, I said to my boyfriend, "I feel like I was just at the best party I've ever been to". I'm sure the Queen + Adam concerts this summer will be the same (since Brian and Roger seem to enjoy performing as much as Adam does).

But for me therein lies the problem: Marc just sounds like a pale imitation of Freddie. I think it would have been better if he had been encouraged to put his own spin on the songs. But I realize that's not what Roger and Brian had in mind. And I also know that a lot of people have enjoyed the QE performances. Maybe I'm just not a fan of tribute bands.

Can I ask your help? I should have been paying attention. What are the earplugs some of you have recommended to bring down the often over-amped sound at concerts? My sister already suffers hearing damage, and I want to be sure to protect her (as well as myself).

Just a comment on STL --- JMHO -- I think that Adam's version of STL at all three Hammersmith concerts was excellent -- and a high point of all three concerts -- particularly on July 12, 2012. July 11, 2014. But I could not find one decent video of this performance. The song was a sing-along at all three Hammersmith performances (and Moscow and Worclow)....here is a video of the final July 14, 2014 that at least captures the moment a bit. youtu.be/OVEarK_PMaUThis is one case where I think talking about runs and notes and "the singing", misses what was great about this particular song in these concerts -- it was electric and fun. Everyone in the audience was singing and dancing and totally into the song. Adam and Brian were just having a ton of fun. *** No it was not comparable to the "big" George Micheal STL performance (with full choir and huge audience) but I don't think it was meant to be. *** For me, this is one song that I think Freddie still owes completely. ETA: I fixed my post. I dashed it off, messed up the dates ane just totally f'ed it up. (Since I was at these concerts there is no excuse except fatigue from two days of unexpected travel and no sleep! Also, I think the 7.12.14 Brian May STL was the most memorable of the three nights -- contrary to my messing that up!

Just a nit pick - he didn't do it all 3 days at Hammersmith....One of the days Brian did it acoustically And to clarify - it wasn't the notes or the runs....And yes it was still a fun performance. It's hard not to have a fun performance...sometimes a song is just such a great fun song, that people will love hearing it as long as it isn't butchered and Adam definitely didn't butcher it and in no way would i suggest they don't do it! In fact I'd be sad if they didn't do it! But yeah this one is still ALL Freddie AFAIK...of course most songs are to me that way.... I do give Adam heavy props though for WWTLF though definitely. TSMGO is also well done, but given the circumstances it will always be Freddie...

Mine say: ETY Plugs earplugs...Etymotic Research with case and cord. I'm not sure if they are the same ones Grandduchess posted above. But I would think they are very similar if not the same.
