I can feel the excitement building for tomorrow show! I wish I was there with everyone in Chicago!!
A quick recap/thoughts on the iHeartRadio Concert on Monday, before we get swallowed into the frenzy of opening night of the TOUR.
I first want to thank Mizzleme for inviting me to be her plus one. I am never lucky enough to win anything, but I know that I am lucky to have found ATOP and wonderful people who were willing to take me along!
Mizzleme, Quietlion, Q3 and I met beforehand at a bakery called Portos to just hang out and chat before the show. The pastries there are really good (if you are ever in that neighborhood) but it was much larger than I had expected. I was able meet with Mizzleme because we had exchanged phone numbers, but I would have never located Q3 and Quietlion if I didn't remember briefly meeting Q3 at the MusicBox. (I believe 3 and a half years ago!?) I wasn't sure, cause it sure was dark in the music box and there were a lot of other ladies that night that I met. But I took a chance and pounced on her saying "by any chance are you Q3!?" It is always fun and a bit embarrassing to be introducing your self as "hi I'm Usagi, you must be Q3 and Quietlion" in public.
We chatted there for a while, calming Quietlion who was a bit nervous asking whether we should get going and wondering if we will even get in if we are not there early. Q3 and I had to assure her that it was a small venue of 500 people, there are no bad seats and Mizzleme and Quietlion WON those tickets. They were guaranteed to get in!
Eventually we did mosey on over to the venue and when we got there we had to wait in line (yes, it was toward the end), but that also gave us a chance to talk to each other and other fans in line. I saw MyS*&@^#r50, Lynne and SusieFierce ahead of us and LM2718 and her son were right behind us. Q3 and I spoke to a young couple who were queen fans who had seen Queen and Paul Rogers. I never had a chance to hear what they thought afterwards... Q3 was flagging down a couple of guys who had custom hats with horns and a Flash! t-shirt on (obvious Queen fans.) I don't remember if it was Q3 or Mys*&@^#r who said it in their recap, but we did seem to be surrounded more by Queen fans than Adam fans, but by the end I hope and think they were all Queen + Adam Lambert fans.
After a bit of a wait in the sun, we started to move into the hall. We had strategized beforehand noting that Brian likes to be on the right hand side facing the stage, and Adam rarely invades his space. So once we got in, we passed the free beer line (priorities!), and went straight to the left side of the stage. There were only 4 people in front of us, so we had a wonderful view!
This is where I have to make a confession, I squeezed by the people in front of me to go chat with Lynne and MyS*&@^#r. I ended up inadvertently ditching Mizzleme, Quietlion and Q3 (SORRY!!! but I think your view was ok too, right?) I ended up having a clear view of the stage and of course Adam! I do feel a bit guilty
I love queen but it is Adam that I follow. HOWEVER, I think I was more struck when I saw Brian right there a few feet in front of me than when Adam walked in. It was a strange feeling, but I think it was because it made me realize, yes I am here going to watch and hear Queen + Adam Lambert. It was a special moment for me.
I loved being there but there were three songs that were special for me.
Love Kills was absolutely beautiful. It didn't have the same meaning to me as those who knew the song, but nevertheless, I think everyone in that theater was touched and mesmerized.
My favorite of the night though for me was Under Pressure. I had tears in my eyes during that song. And ask my husband, I am not sentimental/emotional person He is the one who cries like a baby during movies, I am the cold hearted b*tch who often is like "meh". But I was emotional. I LOVED every second of the song. Lynne and I kept on looking at each other thinking, is this real?!
The last song I loved was Don't Stop Me Now. It is just a fun song to sing along, and this song just seems to epitomize their feelings right now! "Don't Stop Me Now, I am such a good time I'm having a ball!" Lyric change to Adam-bomb and him pointing to himself (unfortunately NOT captured on the stream) was so CUTE!!! We were all have a great time!!!
Ok before I wear everyone down with my exclamations, a couple of final thoughts. I thought it was hilarious that when Adam walked in MyS*&@^#r grabbed my arm (reaching over Lynne) and yelled "OMG his pants!" I am not one who usually ogles, but yes they were FINE lol.
Everytime I looked at the members on the stage, they all just looked like they were having so much fun up there. Brian and Roger did not seem like they could stop smiling!!!
Finally. This was a wonderful teaser! It was great to have a professional recording of the show but I think as everyone said, it isn't the same. The energy just doesn't translate. I am SOOOO excited for the shows coming up, and can't wait to hear everyone else's experience.
Sorry so long winded.
From a grateful, still grinning Usagi
