Adam Lambert is currently on the road with Queen, but the singer is also focusing on his own music.
On Air with Ryan Seacrest has learned that Adam has been working on the follow-up to his 2012 album, Trespassing, and we’re hearing it may be “the strongest one in his career.”
Not only is he “focused and inspired,” but he’s also very happy with the direction the songs are going in. And best news for fans: We can expect to hear Adam’s next album at the beginning of next year.
Until then, catch Adam on the road with Queen … click here for ticket info!

Many fans regret never seeing Queen in concert.
But is it worth buying a ticket to see the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame act perform without the rock icon Freddie Mercury, who died in 1991?
Local fans will find out when Queen -- with "American Idol" star Adam Lambert on vocals -- plays the SAP Center in San Jose on Tuesday. It's not an unprecedented pairing; Lambert fronted the band at the 2011 MTV Music Video Awards and kicked off a 24-date North American tour with the band on June 19.
It's the latest example of a band trying to soldier on -- as well as pad the bank account -- without its iconic frontman or frontwoman. The results have varied wildly over the decades, going from the hugely disappointing (the Doug Yule-led Velvet Underground) to the amazingly successful (Brian Johnson's reign with AC/DC).
Of course, it's hard to imagine Queen without Mercury, he of the four-octave range and theatrical stage moves that made him one of the most acclaimed rock performers in history. Yet, this isn't even the first time Queen has tried touring with a replacement singer. The band performed for several years, beginning in 2004, with former Bad Company frontman Paul Rodgers.
In honor of the Lambert-led Queen visit to the Bay Area, we've decided to look back at some of the other acts who have continued on without their most visible member. We didn't concern ourselves with the bands that made a switch early on in their careers -- such as Pink Floyd and Pantera. Instead, we focused on groups that changed vocalists after they were already well-established in the music world.
Here's a look at several marquee acts that dared to make the switch:
AC/DC
The switch: Bon Scott dies in 1980 at the age of 33, after helping to establish AC/DC as one of the world's best rock bands in the '70s. Brian Johnson quickly steps in and leads the Aussie hard-rock act into a new era.
The result: It was a tall task to try and replace Scott, the equally magnificent and menacing frontman behind such anthems as "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap," "Highway to Hell" and, best of all, "It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)." Yet, Johnson quickly proved worthy of the challenge. He joined the band just in time to record 1980's immortal "Back in Black," which went on to become one of the top-selling albums of all time. The disc also produced so many of the band's best tunes, including "Hells Bells," "Shoot to Thrill," "You Shook Me All Night Long" and the title track. It didn't hurt that Johnson's voice was pretty similar to Scott's (Scott had reportedly seen Johnson perform and admired him). Since then, Johnson has led the band through eight more studio efforts -- all of which have been certified multiplatinum.
Van Halen
The switch: Original vocalist David Lee Roth and guitarist-man-extraordinaire Eddie Van Halen just weren't on the same page in the mid-'80s. But the guitarist is king in this band, which meant it was time for Roth to go and Sammy Hagar to step in.
The result: Ask 10 people to name a band that changed lead singers and probably nine will answer with Van Halen (the 10th will admit to having lived on a different planet for the past 40 years). This is the signature switch in all of rock, with the SoCal hard rock act going from one iconic vocalist to another without ever missing a beat on the Billboard charts. Hagar led the group through four tremendously successful, painfully mediocre albums before leaving the fold (at least for the first time) in 1996. To this day, the debate still rages over which version of VH is better -- Diamond Dave's classic rock juggernaut or Hagar's disposable pop outfit. Of course, we prefer not to provide any hints as to what side of the fence we're on.
Genesis
The switch: Peter Gabriel needed to be free, and Phil Collins was ready to be in charge. The latter took over the reins when Gabriel departed following the 1974 prog-rock masterpiece, "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway."
The result: Collins already had his hands full -- literally speaking -- as the band's drummer. Yet, he was more than ready to move into the spotlight once Gabriel made his expected departure for a solo career. Genesis was a successful art-rock band under Gabriel, but became a much bigger-selling band with Collins at the helm, as it eventually veered away from complex song structures and concept albums toward a sound that favored Top 40 radio. Not surprisingly, many longtime fans were appalled, but many more new fans came aboard.
Black Sabbath
The switch: The once-mighty metal band appeared to be on life support as it gasped and sputtered through 1978's "Never Say Die!" and the subsequent concert tour. Drugs and booze were hitting the band, particularly singer Ozzy Osbourne, hard, and it was time for a drastic change -- and ditching Osbourne for Ronnie James Dio certainly qualified as drastic.
The result: The move benefitted everyone involved. Osbourne found new life as a solo artist, easily eclipsing his Sabbath sales figures with such multiplatinum offerings as "Blizzard of Ozz." Dio solidified his place among the greatest metal vocalists of all time. And Sabbath regained the focus and mojo it lost during the late '70s. Dio only stuck around for two albums -- 1980's "Heaven and Hell" and 1981's "Mob Rules" -- but they were both metal masterpieces. Osbourne later reunited with the band.
Fleetwood Mac
The switch: The Mac was in constant flux -- especially at the microphone -- during its first eight years. The band finally recruited Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham in time for its 10th studio album, 1975's "Fleetwood Mac," and the rest is rock 'n' roll history.
The result: Under the guidance of Peter Green, Fleetwood Mac found some success as a blues-rock outfit in the '60s.Yet, it was going nowhere fast in the '70s -- until it joined forces with promising Bay Area duo Buckingham-Nicks. Buckingham was a hotshot guitarist and decent vocalist, but it was Nicks who really made the biggest difference. Her exquisite voice helped push the band to superstardom on "Fleetwood Mac" -- and then well beyond on 1977's mega-platinum "Rumors." And it's certainly one of the main reasons why fans will turn out to see Fleetwood Mac on Nov. 25 at SAP Center in San Jose and Dec. 3 at Oracle Arena in Oakland.
Journey
The switch: The Bay Area band reluctantly went from Steve Perry to Steve Augeri in 1998. But fans still wanted a lead vocalist who sounded like Perry. They'd get one in 2007 with Arnel Pineda.
The result: Talk about living the dream. Pineda was in a Philippines rock band that covered Journey. Neal Schon saw some of the band's clips on YouTube and asked Pineda if he actually wanted to join Journey. The move has seemed to reinvigorate both Journey and its fan base. The band has recorded two new albums with Pineda -- both of which charted in Billboard's top 20 -- and has booked dates at major venues across the country, including July 26 at Shoreline Amphitheatre at Mountain View and July 29 at Concord Pavilion. It's a nice turn of events, but please "Don't Stop Believin' " that Perry could one day rejoin Journey.

One of the bands that's considered music royalty held court in Chicago last week.
Music fans who had tickets to the Queen + Adam Lambert concert at Chicago's United Center Thursday saw history in the making during this rare match-up of artists. Queen opened their tour in the Windy City and delivered one of the strongest shows to hit the area this year.
While the concert had a delayed start (it began at 8:15 p.m. instead of a 7:30 advertised start time), the show was an all-around hit featuring a stellar collection of the British band's iconic tunes.
Singer Adam Lambert at the helm, this time around, as lead singer, proved he has the vocal talent to handle Queen's signature songs. I'm sure most fans in the house enjoying the show didn't expect Lambert to step into the iconic shoes of the late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. And "American Idol" finalist Lambert smartly never attempted to do that. He simply gave his strong, passionate and honest unique delivery to the best of Queen's material and soared on his own.
With his theatrics, dramatic flair and ability to hit impressive high notes, Lambert was the perfect performer to delve into tunes such as "Killer Queen," "Another One Bites the Dust," "Under Pressure," and "The Show Must Go On."
Queen guitarist Brian May proved he's still a powerhouse of a performer as he showcased whining guitar solos while drummer Roger Taylor remains one of the best in the industry.
"It's great to be back here after all these years," May told the crowd. "What do you think of our Adam? Do you think he's all right?," he shouted.
Queen's setlist rolled on with superb numbers such as "I Want It All," "Somebody to Love," 'Radio Ga Ga," "Bohemian Rhapsody," featuring a video of Mercury singing on the large centerstage screen and massive hit anthems "We Will Rock You," and "We Are the Champions." Special effects, lighting and costumes all combined for the most spectacular of shows.
The band's upcoming tour stops include Vancouver, BC on June 28; Los Angeles, July 3; Las Vegas, July 6; Detroit, Mich., July 12 and various shows in Asia and Australia in August. Visit queenonline.com

QueenOnline on Tour: Notes From The Road Part 9
Exciting news! I have a new job, 'Toweling Robe Assistant', when the band does what is known as a 'runner'. This basically means that when the band leave the venue straight from the stage, as you guys are still applauding, I have to greet a band member right behind the stage, hand them a towel, drape them with their unfolded toweling robe and show them to their waiting vehicle. It does not happen at every gig, but I have to say it was actually rather exciting when I did it after the Winnipeg show.
I was stood ready to go after ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, before the encore, and the energy at that moment is incredible, I have chills just thinking about it. The crowd was roaring and stomping away out front for more, the band are buzzing around behind the stage in a huddle, clearly full of adrenaline, security was now present and a clear avenue has been cleared towards the cars that had their motors running, as the noise in the arena soared even higher Roger shouted "OK, let's go!”, it took all of my discipline not to run out there with them! It was thrilling to be part of. ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘Champions’ flew by and the next thing I know I am being told the same old jokes by Neil as we skip down the ramp towards the cars...does that man ever stop? I stand back as the rest of the guys quickly filter down, a beaming Brian whizzes by acknowledging people on the way, I give him the thumbs up, he slaps me on the arm and says "Thanks Nick!" and that's it, they are gone. That memory is a keeper, a little thing in the whole scale of this trip, but I am taking that one with me.
The show itself also stood out for me for two reasons, an addition in the set list and the fact that I was assaulted.
During the latter part of the sound check in which they ran through 'These Are The Days Of Our Lives', 'I Want It All' and 'Love Kills' the band got together and for a discussion on the stage. A few minutes later it was announced. "Set List change, can you redistribute these please?” 'Don't Stop Me Now' had been added after 'Radio Ga Ga'. Get in. For many this track is some what of good time anthem, well it is round my way and caused mayhem on the dance floor at my wedding, and it was great to see it dropped into the arena show after it brought the house down at the iHeart show in LA. I think Chicago got a tiny bit jealous...
The attack: Being the professional I am, I was doing my online job side of stage and just about to take a picture of Adam above me on one of the walkways and I was groped. Full blooded backside action, a really handful was grabbed. I jumped out of my skin, remember is quite dark round the back of the stage, Glamberts I thought, and spun round with a glare ready for action, but no. All I could see was RT's drum tech Nigel running way, screaming with laughter holding Adam's gold microphone stand like a spear. A few of the crew were chuckling away and pointing at me, I even saw a couple of the audience who witnessed the ordeal give me smile. He'll keep, he'll keep.
Here we are in Saskatoon then, show number three and by this time next week I will be at home. It's been a riot so far, but hard work and long hours, but the experience has been immense so far and I have met some truly great people. Yesterday was a day off and almost the entire crew, even the non-football loving ones, and couple of Adam's team headed into town to watch the USA / Portugal match. It was good game, but the highlight for me was Rufus and the impassioned rant he gave me about his thoughts on England captain Steven Gerrard and his performances at the World Cup, I could not stop laughing. Not sure Stevie G would have been quite so amused. The bond we all have as crew grows everyday, it sounds cliché but it IS like a family and many have said that the vibe in this tour is an absolute joy. There was a lot of love in that bar...and lot of empty glasses.
I have a few ideas on forthcoming blogs including 'Bus Life' and the 'Load In/Out', so hopefully I can get to those topics shortly.
One final thing, if you are interested, my highlights of the shows so far, in no particular order, are: 'In The Lap Of The Gods', Roger and Adam smashing 'Under Pressure', 'Love Kills' on the B-stage and 'Who Wants To Live Forever' and the disco ball.
Saskatonians, let’s see what you’ve got.
Fact: Canadian musician Joni Mitchell calls Saskatoon her hometown, and funnily enough the Tour Management team here were just the other day showing off their new orange flight case that used to be owned by Joni, it has her signature scrawled all over it in massive silver print.
Bye.
Nick
