This continued meme that Freddie was the "main songwriter" of Queen is inaccurate. Solo song writing credits: Freddie 52 May 48 Taylor 22 Deacon 15 there were also 51 songs that are attributed as co-writes. so...Brian and Freddie wrote the majority of the songs either solo or as co-writers sourceYes but the meme continues. For lots of bands, the perception and sometimes fact is that the lead singer IS the songwriter (Police, Maroon 5, Muse) and there are tons of exceptions like Queen too but Freddie is so dominant. Anyway, I think some people who consider themselves Queen fans (and not saying they're not) don't concern themselves with song credits. I told my DH that Brian wrote this one, Roger wrote that one etc. He had no idea. And I'm sure it's even more jumbled up. Didn't Brian say in that documentary that he wrote the middle eight to KQ but Freddie said he should get sole credit? I just by coincidence talked to a rabid Freddie fan in her 20s. She wore out A Night at the Opera as a kid. She has NO interest in seeing Queen without Freddie as I mentioned the MSG concert. I didn't even mention Adam. But I told her about the RS article about FM and the nice BBC doc recently, "Freddie Mercury Saved My Life." She had no idea about them, nor did she even know where his statue was. For her, Almost Queen the tribute band is fine and otherwise she just listens to the albums. So I'm still learning about that part of the fandom, just surprised and nothing wrong with their rigidity I guess as ticket sales for the tour show. I just finished reading a bio about Freddie, and what I read is that someone would come up with some ideas and lyrics and often Freddie would play around with the arrangement and harmonies etc. Brian did quite a few of the songs on his own. But it truly sounded like it was a collaborated effort. That's why later on they decided to all be co- writers. Perhaps Talon could could give us more insight.

ILH!! mys*&@^#r50 I had the same thought BUT do you think that Brian/Roger mind this impromtu as it seems to be more Adam and not a Queen moment As he is becoming more confident, it feels as it the show is tending more to the popish rather than Rock sound IDK

But it truly sounded like it was a collaborated effort. That's why later on they decided to all be co- writers. Perhaps Talon could could give us more insight. The short and sweet (as I have to run - if there is more desire I can expound later) At the beginning Freddie and Brian were the main songwriters. Roger and John slowly began to contribute. Freddie really really encouraged this but definitely got involved with both Roger and John's songs and SOME times took them over completely. Roger's Radio Ga Ga and A Kind Of Magic are two very good examples. Roger went on vacation and Freddie rearranged things quite a bit on Ga Ga. For A Kind Of Magic: THIS is the well known single version. Freddie took Roger's idea and made it far more pop and even recycled a bass line from his own song, Keep Passing The Open Windows. The initial completed Roger version did feature in Highlander but is not well known. It is far more of straight forward rock track. Honestly, personally I prefer Roger's Original RT Highlander Version - Not a lot more Brian in here - this is closer to how they did it in concert to be honest! Freddie did though stay away from Brian's songs generally. In a quote I can't find now he said as much that he helped RT and JD but that Brian always had a particular idea and didn't really need his help anyways. BUT that's not why they went to a group credit. They went to a group credit to avoid fighting. They used to fight over which song got B-Side credit. For example RT got all the royalties from the Bohemian Rhapsody single because Roger's I'm In Love With My Car was the B-Side. This way there are no royalty arguments. All 4get songwriting credits and royalties. It also had the added effect of songwriting authors to not get too particular about their own tracks and really got them all to work on all of the tracks together. The best thing they ever did according to Brian....

Queen has always been Rock, Pop, Pop/Rock, Rock Opera, Theatrical! Have you seen their faces?! LOL!
