Actually I thought this first viewer quite funny. She starts off by saying she doesn't really like Adam but then says how great he was. I also found it interesting that she called him a bit of a comedian. And didn't her "name" have Lambert in it? ??? |

Melliemom this is just my opinion but Freddie isn't considered "just" a singer. He was Queen in many respects, main songwriter and frontman for a band. That is very different from being a solo artist, which is what Adam is, who is known more for his voice and not for being a songwriter. There is no comparison in my mind. It just is what it is. I can't imagine anyone right now who could have the stage presence and voice Adam has and still be a humble guest of the band. I think he's doing it. And he makes it look effortless which makes critics take for granted how hard these songs are to sing. Freddie needs no defending, he's a legend and rightly so. Adam's doing amazing and if folks don't get it, they respect it when they hear him live or else they can stay in the 70s and 80s and that's ok too. QAL makes me enjoy Queen with Freddie even more, not choose. And the combo of the collecting, obsessive recording and generosity of both fandoms in sharing is a very cool thing. So take any FLD or critical views of this tour and go: so what. Enjoy! This continued meme that Freddie was the "main songwriter" of Queen is inaccurate. Solo song writing credits: Freddie 52 May 48 Taylor 22 Deacon 15 there were also 51 songs that are attributed as co-writes. so...Brian and Freddie wrote the majority of the songs either solo or as co-writers sourceYes but the meme continues. For lots of bands, the perception and sometimes fact is that the lead singer IS the songwriter (Police, Maroon 5, Muse) and there are tons of exceptions like Queen too but Freddie is so dominant. Anyway, I think some people who consider themselves Queen fans (and not saying they're not) don't concern themselves with song credits. I told my DH that Brian wrote this one, Roger wrote that one etc. He had no idea. And I'm sure it's even more jumbled up. Didn't Brian say in that documentary that he wrote the middle eight to KQ but Freddie said he should get sole credit? I just by coincidence talked to a rabid Freddie fan in her 20s. She wore out A Night at the Opera as a kid. She has NO interest in seeing Queen without Freddie as I mentioned the MSG concert. I didn't even mention Adam. But I told her about the RS article about FM and the nice BBC doc recently, "Freddie Mercury Saved My Life." She had no idea about them, nor did she even know where his statue was. For her, Almost Queen the tribute band is fine and otherwise she just listens to the albums. So I'm still learning about that part of the fandom, just surprised and nothing wrong with their rigidity I guess as ticket sales for the tour show. |
