I was at the Philly concert last night with 5 of my friends, all of whom are Queen fans, not necessarily Adam fans. This was the first time that I have ever seen Adam live. My seats were in section 114 which is designated handicapped seating. One friend was about five weeks out from a shoulder replacement, one was four weeks out from a total knee replacement, and I have had two hip replacements and had just finished a year with several cancer surgeries, chemo and radiation. I mention this only because some people here don't seem to understand why some of us don't want to stand for the entire concert. We might want to, but aren't physically able. I'm sure that isn't the case with everyone who complains about everyone standing, but speaking for myself, I have been feeling pretty good and wanted to go to a concert, but just didn't have the stamina to stand the entire time. Imagine my surprise when ALL the people in the "Handicapped" section stood up for all of the Adam parts. It was clear to me that many of the people in this section were NOT handicapped. What a mix of people! The gentleman next to me brought his son who was about 10; the people in front of us were young men in their twenties, and there were quite a few young girls. There were a few scattered older fans, but most of them must have been sitting somewhere else.
My friends and I had a blast, and we really enjoyed the concert. The band sounds wonderful live. Adam is just riveting and has huge charisma on the stage. We got around the standing issue by putting our seats in the closed position and and sitting on top of them. but for two of my really short friends, that didn't help too much...even with standing they couldn't see. I loved just about everything Adam did! I agree with others on this thread that he wasn't really on top of his game. Having watched everything on live streams and youtube, I could tell he wasn't going for the high notes and appeared to be saving his voice. Other people who don't listen to every concert would NEVER know the difference, though. Our section also didn't have the best sound; it seemed at times that Adam was singing through a megaphone or something, and we chalked it up to the sound systems. One friend in my party recorded several songs on his phone for me, and when we played it back after the concert we all remarked how the songs sounded so much better on the phone than what we heard in the stadium.
From my point of view the entire arena were pretty enthusiastic, and were into it. At one point it seemed like the entire arena were singing along to FBG...very cool! The crowd also got into Adam's call and response. WWTLF was breathtaking and as was TSMGO. There were lots of people sitting on the floor who sang along with Brian during his solos.
NONE of the things I am mentioning prevented us from enjoying ourselves and the band! My party had a good time, and I think everyone around me had a good time too. They all agreed that Adam did a great job filling in as front man. As we exited the building, I heard lots of people saying how great the concert was and how much they enjoyed it.
I think the MSG concert will be important.....lots of big apple critics and all. I was wondering if maybe Adam was saving himself vocally for this particular venue. I am sure the crowd will love him!
I totally get now how seeing Adam in concert can be just like potato chips...you aren't satisfied with just one! Considering going to more concerts now. Yikes!
