From the NY Inquisitr Adam Lambert And Queen ‘Kill’ In Front Of New York Fans
Excerpt: ...latest stop was at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, where Lambert proved once again that he was born for this gig. Questions of Adam Lambert’s ability to even come close to the late Freddie Mercury’s stage presence have been slowly and sufficiently put to rest as Lambert continues to nail it each and every night, while still bringing his own unique flare to the festivities. Reviews of the show have been generally positive for the ex-American Idol contestant, but The New York Times found fault with the Madison Square Garden performance, even while praising it. The reviewer calls out Lambert as “whiny” and his patter “embarrassing. To be fair, the reviewer goes on to say that Queen, one of the biggest rock and roll bands of the 1970s and 80s, is simply a studio band with overdubbed vocals and guitar riffs, which immediately calls into question the reviewers credentials to judge a rock show. A very brief recap: Had a great time at the MSG concert. Highlights for me were Somebody To Love, WWTLF (the singing was wonderful and the lights beaming off the disco ball made me feel like I was floating and twirling in space), the last several songs leading up to BR. BR was very powerful I thought. Some of my favorite parts of these recaps are when the writers have gotten opinions from other concert goers. I’m far too reserved to talk to my neighbors. But I will share the reaction of my husband. He is very musical, and is totally uninvested in either Queen or Adam. He was only slightly familiar with Queen and hadn’t heard much about Adam since watching AI that season. He loved the concert. Although he liked Adam on AI, he thought Adam had improved greatly and was worthy to be fronting Queen. More than once, he said that Adam was “rhythmically very strong.” (Yay! A form of praise I hadn’t heard before-I’m a bit tired of hearing Adam’s range praised.) He also said that Adam had a fantastic ear, as Adam sang a cappella a number of times yet was on perfect pitch with the band when the band came in again; most singers would drift away from the right pitch. He also mentioned how Adam would sing high without screeching (unlike many other singers in his opinion) and was impressed with his stamina. Interesting, my husband said he felt bad for Adam being subjected to all the Freddie nostalgia during the concert and being “forced to say some words” about how great Freddie was. My husband absolutely loved all the instrumental solos—the bass solo, the drum duel, and Brian’s guitar solo. Thus he was enraged by the NYTimes review and ranted on very entertainingly about how if that reviewer had had the chance to hear, say, Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapellli do an impromptu hourlong improvisation at a concert the reviewer probably would have complained about that too. Thanks so much for this. Yes, Adam seems so musically in tune. Appreciated you sharing.

I just felt I had to write something about my experiece from the MSG consert. I first became a Glambert two years ago when they played songs from Trespassing on the Radio. I got to hear Adam from the radio several times a day and it was so good I had to go and find some more. Someone had uploaded the trespassing CD to the youtube and I can say it was the first CD ever I could listen to so that I had no need to skip any track from there. and now two years later it made me buy tickets and flights to see Queen+Adam at the MSG. And a trip first time to the States. I thought that I would travel alone, and it was not a big deal for me, I just wanted to go and do this. Before this trip I wrote to a another Finnbert here in Adamtopia. She gave me information about the pre-party and we made plans to meet in NY while we were there. We did meet on the day of the consert, went sightseeing and made plans about the pre-party. When I was leaving to the pre-party and waited for this other adamtopian in the front of my hotel, there were few glamberts that walked by me. I could see that they were Glamberts, but was too shy to say anything. They turned around and asked if I was a Glambert? I was so proud to be able to say that I am! I asked if I look like a glambert and they said yes! I'm nearly 40 years old and had leather pants on, but I was proud about it! I met a lot of Glamberts at the pre-party and everyone was so friendly and nice. I even got to meet other Finnberts! It is so strange that you need to travel to a different county to meet them And the consert... I had a seat at the section 106. Before they started to play I was a bit suprised that why people weren't clapping and yelling to get them to the stage? That is something we do in Finland... So if there is some of you who were at the same section, it was me who clapped and yelled like a grazy person there by her self! I'm still kind of speechless about the consert.. It was surreal and awesome! I think the they had thought the "whole package" theraly. It was like a consert should be, like a journey. I cannot pick up my favorite part, because they all were on their own way. I was a breathtaking moment when Brian got the standing ovation, and sang Love of my life together with the crowd. I think I forget to breath at some parts of WWLF and TSMGO, just listening the master to hit those notes.I loved the theatrical-part in Killer Queen. When Adam said something about he is not at all like that for real, I just thought that maybe not in his real life, but that is definately something he likes to do on the stage, and I am glad he did it! Love Kills was in my opinion one of the best versions so far. I'm not an expert to explain why, but there was something different. When I talked about the "whole package" earlier, I would add that Brian's quitar solo and Roger's solo were a perfect fit for the consert. It was something like you could just listen to the "raw talent". One of the best parts of the consert was when the hole Madison Square Garden was on their feet (at least what I could see) during the last three songs. Thank you all fellow glamberts I got to meet on this trip, I hope we will get meet soon again! I am on twitter with a name JaanaHelsing. I don't usually post there that much, so there is no need to start and follow, but as an info to those I met if you would like to go and see photos or something! This was my first post here so if this should be at some other thread please be kind to move it! Jaana
