Hey cassie, it's not about technical skill level. I think some folks like the tone of Freddie's voice and of course it's imprinted with them as Queen. Technically my DH admires Adam but on these songs he loves Freddie's tone.
I wouldn't want Adam to try and sound like Freddie though I suspect he could if he wanted to, as his voice is so elastic. Marc Martel has the same tone as Freddie (speaking if tone, NOT skill level) but I'm sorry, he cannot bring the charisma and stage comfortability and theatricality that Adam has.
While you're here, is it false that Freddie sings "lower"? The keys are the same and Adam just sounds higher? Isn't it that Adam prefers singing higher but could sing lower if he wanted to (like in Love Kills or his "men sing you mother£$/63@" exhortation)?

Isn't it that Adam prefers singing higher but could sing lower if he wanted to (like in Love Kills or his "men sing you mother£$/63@" exhortation)? I understand and accept if they LIKE Freddie's voice better. That is a matter of taste. I get miffed when they support it by saying that Freddie could sing the high notes live that Adam does or he could sing like Adam does night after night. As to range, I have read that Freddie was a baritone, which is lower than a tenor. I do think that Freddie's voice has more power in the notes below G3 than Adam's does, as one would expect with a baritone and tenor. However, rock and pop favor tenor voices for men, and Freddie sang toward the top of his natural range rather than hanging out in the lower register. It probably is one reason his voice was damaged. Also, Freddie did sometimes lower the songs by a half a note or a note when performing them live. On the high end, I have read all kinds of claims about how high Freddie could sing, but I have HEARD him sing up to a C5 in full voice. In most of the concert videos he rarely goes above an A4 in full voice, and sometimes takes an alternative melody line to avoid the A4. Those ultra high notes Freddie is supposed to be able to sing are in falsetto, not full voice. Adam can belt out high notes in full voice at least a half octave higher than Freddie. Their voices are actually not that similar in range, tone, or even power. But with Adam and Freddie being famous for range and power, and with Adam daring to step onto the stage as Queen's frontman, the comparisons/preferences abound.

Cassie thx for this. A dream would be if you could write up an analysis of the QAL songs (maybe the most notable ones) in the masterclass thread. Like the key, range and high and low notes per song but just one example for each song. So maybe the WATC when he did that ultra high note at the end, not from the other shows. And we can post to the masterclass thread our nominated vids for each song including the call and responses. The best of the best during the whole span of tour.
So it's a lot to even ask and you can totally tell me to sod off! While the tech stuff doesn't register with me live, I like reading analytics later on.

Four years ago I did something a little similar with GNT. I was a newbie to Planet Fierce and posted with some trepidation, but got lots of support. It would be fun to try something like that again. He has grown so much vocally, which is amazing considering how skilled he was to start with. I will put out a call for recommendations in the daily thread.

this is my first post- i have been lurking for some time now . My sister in Texas introduced me to this forum and is also a lurker lol. Have been following Adam since idol, when my daughter then in high school pointed him out cuz she thought he was good looking! Saw Glamnation tour with my 2 daughters, my texas sister and other friends and family 1x in CT. Had seats way too far back! Was a Queen hits fan but listened everyday to all songs Queen and studying Q3 and talon posts in preparation!! I went to the QAL concert at MPP with a friend of mine (Adam fan-always thought he should sing with Queen, Glee fan, not so much of his own music tho) my 2 daughters (20 & 22 yo) The 20 yo is a metal fan but likes Adam since idol but likes rock Adam, also loves Brians guitar playing and that he is an astrophysicist-she is a bit of a science nerd herself, and 22 yo (was the high schooler during idol) loves all sides of Adam, glee everything. My daughters had standing GA tickets with a friend of theirs and i had bought 2 VIP tickets- front row- my husband was the one to convince me to spend the money, he was going with me until a few weeks ago when he got training away for 5 weeks. Almost fainted when i saw the catwalk and thrust right in front of my seat! Met DancyGeorgia who sat next to me. I was so excited and nervous! The seats could not have been any better! The anticipation was thrilling. When the music started and Adam came out i said to my friend that i couldnt believe we were there! I have to say the sound of Adam's voice (and at time Brians) had that chipmunk effect to me, my friend couldnt tell but she doesn't listen to all his videos like i do. It was better when they were singing in the thrust but i have to say having Adam sooo close i really didn't care how he sounded or if he just stood there because he is more beautiful in real life -i was overwhelmed . I don't know how many times i said to my friend how gorgeous and hot he looked up close!! I asked DancyGeorgia after the concert about how he sounded and she said people hear him differently and that it was the best sound of all the concerts, so not really sure what that means re: my ears lol. Been watching the videos and they all sound normal to me- oh well- it was awesome all around and well worth every penny i spent! Stood most of the time (had also picked front row so i could sit if needed-bad back) but found myself standing- i wanted to be as close and involved as possible!! My friend thought the concert was awesome and Adam was gorgeous and great in this role. My daughters thought it was great also, my metal daughter took tons of pics of Brian! I think i am rambling- feeling the same excitement all over again writing this!! The venue was easier to access than i thought, had some logistic concerns with the hills and all with my bad back, but managed ok- weather could have been way worse for this time of year! thats it! i am nervous to post this

MPP started out as a Wolf Trappe (outdoor venue, Vienna, VA) twin. In the woods, charming, picnics, a place to gather. As Columbia grew (a planned community) houses started being built closer to the "woods" and people started complaining about the noise. These complaints have always been a point of contention to me. It's like people building too close to an airport and then bitching about the noise. ANYWAYS, concessions have been made to the complainers and, I guess, there's probably a big debate on doing upgrades because of all the other issues -- crowds, parking, noise, etc. It used to be a great place to picnic and tail gate and hear some great concerts. And, it used to be fun to just hear the concerts wafting thru the trees. Many nights I spent out on my patio grilling and enjoying a drink and having some great background music. Things change :(

FEY, CAMP, OVER THE TOP... ...and absolutely marvelous.
I saw Queen + Adam Lambert Sunday night at DC. Why didn't somebody think of this ages ago? Lambert is a natural for Queen. He doesn't imitate the late, lamented Freddie Mercury, but he certainly channels him. Amazing voice. It SOARS. It's good Queen is doing this. There aren't any new rock stars, only old ones. But Lambert latches onto Queen's legacy with terrific aplomb. People just want to hear the songs. The "American Idol" product sings them very well. The two Queen originals, guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor, get a well-deserved shot of glory and appreciation at every performance. As I watched Queen, I couldn't help but think: Jimmy Page deserves this. Page should round up John Paul Jones, Jason Bonham and Alter Bridge vocalist Myles Kennedy, then hit the road. Nobody can tell Robert Plant he has to be in Led Zeppelin. But nobody should be able to tell Page he can't.

Hi Cassie, If you're still here I've been really wanting to ask you a question. I loved the venue at MSG but had a lot of trouble with Adam's voice. His singing and speaking sounded really high and chirpy to me, honestly to the point where I didn't enjoy a couple of the songs, but I didn't hear it when Freddie or Brian sang. At Merriweather he sounded amazing to me, much deeper tone and didn't seem to be overpowered by the instruments. I don't know what was going on if it was me or the sound system, any thoughts? Thanks... and I love reading all your informative info you share.
