And maybe I will be the one in Vegas holding up the sign that says, "Please wink for us, Adam." During of course, any song which features The Red Shirt. Thanks, you too.

Thanks, LindaG23. Always good for me to have a reminder that not everything is about me. Well, I wouldn't go that far because otherwise I would have to consider changing MY modus operandi. :D

Really the only review that mattered last night outside of the hordes of fans screaming and us bent over computers all bleary eyed, is reflected in Brian's face during Under Pressure!

What bothers me most about some critics is that they go to the show venue with their eyes and minds already firmly shut and their reviews already written, save for a few limply positive comments they toss in just so they can prove they actually did attend and they don't come off to readers as total jerks. All I ask of a critic is that he or she goes in open minded, waits to pass judgment until AFTER the performance, and ACCURATELY describes the performers' skills and the audience's responses even if they conflict with his or her own prejudices. Judged on that basis, I guess Jim's review is not bad. But I still stand by my original point: it serves no one well to send someone to review a show if they're incapable of separating their own preconceived opinions (whether favorable or negative toward the artists) from the actual quality of the performance. I thought it was a pretty decent review -- although it appears to me that he really did not know what to think about this performance -- they are a cover band, they sounded like MUSE, but Brian was there being Brian?? Seems to me like the experience confused him. I share a bit of his confusion. > Yes, I think these concerts are fantastic. > But I understand the issue with classifying these concerts. Q+AL is very different than Queen in 1980 or 1974. It just is. The vocals are less Rock, more Pop than Queen ever was. And 2014 is nor pop that 1980 was. > Something else is different. They are having more fun on stage and with the audience than Queen ever did. Freddie never really joked with the audience. And I can't imagine Freddie doing that cheeky "Killer Queen" or joking around with Brian and Roger on stage, or doing a high 5, or hugging after a song. They were usually very serious on stage. **** JMHO.... 1. I think "Is Queen without Freddie and John still Queen?" is a valid question. But they called it Q+AL. 2. What more can one ask from a reviewer than this ...."It probably won't get any better for the band than the current Queen + Adam Lambert configuration."? Even setting aside the Freddie question -- Brian and Roger are not what they were 30 or 40 years ago. John is not there -- and he was an essential part of Queen too. 3. I actually sort of agree with this statement, "Lambert handled most of the more operatic moments just fine, especially when they required him to hit the high notes. Yet, he wasn't able to go the other direction -- and get down and dirty -- nearly as convincingly. He lacks Mercury's supreme swagger, which helped drive such cuts as "Another One Bites the Dust" and "Crazy Little Thing Called Love." " >> I think Freddie was better on the rock numbers and Adam is better on the power ballads. But they are both damn fine on everything. >> And I prefer Adam on CLTCL to Freddie. But that is a matter of preference. *** What I really disagree with is this..."Did it ever seem like I was watching anything more than a Queen cover band? Maybe in a few spots -- such as when May burned through that famed guitar spot at the end of "We Will Rock You." Mostly, however, the answer was no." But he has the right to his opinion. I did not feel like it was a Queen cover band -- and I did not feel like it was Queen from 1980. It seems like something different to me. And to me that is a good thing. The great mystery of this review...But if it sounded like a Queen cover band, how could it also sound like MUSE? "The result often sounded like we were listening to Muse, a group that has drawn Queen comparisons for much of its career."
