You know, I read online a comment about Adam not really "feeling the emotion of a song, and "just standing there," and "turning his back to the audience." I wanted to say something about my opinion of his stage presence.
First, there is the confidence. Art or artifice, I read it as real. And IMO he has good reason to be confident. Years onstage, time to learn all the nuances and mechanics. Hard work. He is gorgeous, talented, and to my mind, wants to engage the audience, cares if I have a good time. In fact doesn't just want me to have a good time, wants to share it with me. Love that.
There are times when he does "just" stand, But usually when he is listening to Brian, or Roger, and I see that as a sign of respect, recognition and plain good manners. A real star is not afraid to let others shine, IMO. He is on stage with fucking rock gods and I don't think he forgets that for a minute. I love good manners in a man. And I think he is truly awed and thrilled to be there, and I feel that so strongly from him. Joy boy.
I am speechless that anyone could watch this man and not feel that he is "feeling the emotion" of the song. Fan or not, watch him sing a ballad. Watch him sing Love Kills. I feel that the emotion of the song actually overcomes him. Remember in Idol at the end of a song you could see him come out of the song and back to reality. At least I strongly felt I could see that. He inhabits a song. I love that, because he takes me with him. Every singer I have loved has been able to take me on that ride. Like I said, no technical knowledge, but I know what crawls inside my heart and mind and moves me. If Adam doesn't do it for some people, I hope they have singers who do. It is a very primal, wonderful feeling, IMO.
Turning his back to the audience? I was amazed when I saw that some people thought of that as a negative. I think there may have been an old stage idiom to never turn your back on the audience. Don't know if that is still operant, but IMO not applicable in this case. I love it when he does that. Sometimes he does it to give the spotlight to the musicians. Sometimes I'm sure it is for dramatic effect. It feels to me like someone who is supremely comfortable there. I'm sorry for some that it disrupts their pleasure. Seems a rigid stance to me, to stick to the old idiom. Plus some of those moves seen from the back are quite pleasurable, IMO.
And speaking of moves, if there is anybody in this word that can move, IMO it is this boy. Yowza, IMO. To say he is too stationery while on stage boggles my mind. Boggles my mind! I don't know that I have ever seen someone so inventive, so non-repetitive, so in sync with the music, so flat out playful and sexy. I have followed him since 2009 and he is
still coming up with moves I haven't seen him do before. So organic, IMO.
So, I'm my opinion, he is fabulous on stage. Love watching him, love feeling what I do when he moves, when he sings. Oh, and look what he has done for that whole group of musicians. they are having such a good time up there, all loosening up, responding to each other. How can that not make an audience so happy? Remember when Leila said Adam was just sunshine, that he lit up a room when he entered? That is what he does to me, and I think, what he does for everyone around him, including the audience.
And his aptitude for comedy. Killer Queen. Need I say more.
And who riffs like "Gimme Your Love" anymore?
And one more thing then I will end this rant, promise. Amazed at his ability to be absolutely raunchy, then throw us a radiant smile. He is in on it, he is aware, for me his ability to be true to himself (Paula) and be so outright hot and then defuse with self awareness, a-mazing. My grandmother would have not been offended, how does he do that?
What a showman, he truly brings it.
And all the usual caveats, not everyone likes the same thing, not expecting that. And I really don't care that others don't like or get him, it truly does not diminish my appreciation one bit. It's just that those comments make me think about why I like I'm so much, and sometimes I just burst with wanting to explain why I love this boy so much. And thankfully, I have this place where I can do so.
Thanks to you all.
Point in case? Guitar string in mouth. Hot, playful, gah, just love this boy.
