HI JustKaren. glad you are back! I've been gone for a while too but had to come out of the woodwork for QAL. I am an Outlander fan as well. Can't wait for the mini series on HBO next month. Hi granduchess and Nikki too!
Wow - so many great posts today, peeps are really waxing philosophical! Brought out by Dr. Bri's BD?
Nikki loved your essay. Was Montreal the first extended "need your love" call/response? What concert did he start doing this at?
On Adam as not a front man - I totally disagree! Adam was trained early on in theatre to be a collaborator. When he is writing, he loves collabs. During GNT, and ever since, he always interacts with band mates, and has said several times that he is self-conscientious when being alone on stage. I think he has grown by leaps and bounds in that department, as is evidenced with the staging on this QAL tour. He seems way more comfortable staying in the spotlight. But, he loves interacting with the other members, and as a musician, loves making music with others. I think he is the ultimate front man, consummate showman, performer, and the greatest entertainer of our generation.
I just think it is really wonderful that he has finally found a band worthy of his talent. As one of the reviewers said, Adam was born to sing the Queen songs.
Not that I don't want him to have his own success with his own music, please do not misunderstand me. I want that for him more than anything, and can't wait for A-3.

Nikki, loved your comments: "I think I am actually seeing them properly for the first time because they were always so overshadowed in my mind by Freddie - and it is a real thrill." and "it's not just an appreciation of the music or any technicality, or even when Adam soars. it is also the relationship between them. It has been so unexpected, and sometimes it takes my breath away. I simply never expected to see anything other than a truly professional relationship on that stage and instead I'm witnessing a depth of pure joy and inspiration in each other; a relationship characterized by love, generosity of spirit, kindness, playfullness, respect and graciousness, that is then shared with thousands." I feel the same. Freddie was Queen for so many people and this tour has brought home the fact that Roger and Brian were irreplaceable members of the band. I'm loving their music. And, like you, I am so touched by the way they interact with each other on stage. Their performances just exude love and joy to all of us. Never really noticed that when Queen played many years ago. Read more: adamtopia.com/thread/2454/happy-bday-brian-zealand-promo?page=1#ixzz37vnu2Qa8

Yay! Another Outlander here! I'm nearing the end of MOBY ... I've started reading the series over again. 3 1/2 books since LV. Thankful it is baseball season! After our hallway discussion in Vegas, I've started, too. I'm on the 2nd book and enjoying them greatly. Thanks for the tip. Hmm. Connection to Adam and Dr. Bri--it's a kind of magic!

Glitter-Loved your post. I so agree about Adam as a frontman. I've often said to my DH that I felt Adam's voice is just too good for a rock band frontman. Many rock fans complain his voice isn't gravelly enough( Just not enough alcohol, smoke and screaming with untrained vocal to produce the typical rock voice). Adam's voice deserves to be front and center in a solo career- he excels when he is singing songs like Love Kills, Under Pressure and WWTLF. But then I play his version of Somebody to Love and I can see how much he enjoys sharing his talent with others on the stage- and with us.

And I really don't see much difference in this Queen tour and his GNT in his interactions with the band. He always had much intereaction with the band and backup singers and dancers. I hope he can at least come close to the high quality of this Queen band in his future projects.

Aussie Queens @aussiequeens 4h @hid3spy hi just wondering for my own curiosity how long does it take to setup stage and set and dismantle it? Can we see inside the trucks?
Marc Amyot@hid3spy @aussiequeens For the equipments security and our drivers, i am not allowed to show you inside the trailers.
Marc Amyot@hid3spy @aussiequeens A load-in can takes around 2-3 hours. To setup the stage i will ask the techs
Marc Amyot@hid3spy @aussiequeens All need extrem precision. A tech manager told me pass 7 hours to build everything! An amazing work

Glitter, great analysis--very well written.
To me, Adam is kind of stuck between a rock (hee) and a hard place on acting like Queen's frontman. If he went all typical frontman Alpha Male, he risks looking like a cocky little shit and getting skewered by the Queen faithful and possibly annoying Brian and Roger. Besides, it isn't really appropriate--it's Queen + Adam Lambert, not Adam Lambert's Queen. But then reviewers who can't be arsed to actually think about his situation take him to task for not acting more like the frontman.
I would call it a no-win situation--except he's winning all over the place. He's making a ton of money, he's having a great time, he's getting massive exposure and the people who are actually paying money to see him are walking away more than satisfied. And that's all good.
As long as I'm Holding Forth--I would love it if Brian/Roger helped him with some songwriting and arrangements. One tiny issue I've had with many of the songs on A1/2 is that they always seemed a little thin, for want of a better word. Part of Queen's genius was creating these amazing layers of sound--even on semi-silly songs they were always fairly sophisticated in their musical complexity. It would be wonderful if they could help create that for A3.
And finally...(this is the problem when you lurk for too long, you have all these feels and thoughts and then you over-compensate when you de-lurk!) I think one of the problems some people have with the long solos is simply generational. Everything is in 10-second intervals now--all of our commercials, our television shows, everything is snippets and as a result, culturally we now have very short attention spans. Back in the day, a 15-minute guitar solo was more of a norm than an exception. (Of course, it probably didn't hurt that we were usually stoned while we were listening to it! )
Hopping off the soapbox and getting on with RL....thanks for indulging me.

FLD
racking my brain as to what this means, F for Freddie, obvious L - Lives forever? no clue what D is for. I get the gist, I think just from discussions I have seen here. but, what exactly is FLD?

Adam is def between a rock and a hard place on this on. I have been a Queen fan for many years but until this tour I never really thought about how trapped Brian and Roger are. Adam can do this than move on with his own solo career -- as long as he does not allow himself to become a karaoke Freddie which he has not. Brian and Roger did some of their greatest work in the 1970's and 1980's and yet seem to get little credit for it. >> I honestly think that some of the US reviewers only know Queen from Wayne's World. But Brian and Roger who were both an integral part of making Queen, Queen became overshadowed by Freddie -- I think particularly in North America where Freddie seems to have become iconic to many people who really have little knowledge of Queen, their music and what a Queen concert was really like. Perhaps when they finally release the 1974 Rainbow concert video it will help people realize Queen was always more than Freddie.
