Regarding that whole complex opening. Using the lyrics with the complex curtain raising was a stroke of brilliance. The problem was that I suspect that brilliance went quite unnoticed by a huge proportion of the crowd because of all the extra noise and stuff going on. When you add the really loud guitar and background instruments, and the smoke, and the multiple echo....then put it right at the beginning when everyone is still jostling in their seats, applauding for all they are worth....hyperventilating etc....the lyrics and significance just get lost. In the end, the bulk of the people that "get it" are the uber fans that watch multiple shows and vids, know the lyrics and examine every bit of minutia coming from the show. I know it completely went over my head...I heard the first Now I'm here and that was about it....For me, I wish they had cut back on the production and volume....except for Adam's voice...for just that curtain moment because it was worth really 'seeing' and I imagine an awful lot of rehearsing went into that few seconds....jmho I loved the intro. The long build, the use of "Procession", then the most performed Queen song NIH which just happened to fit the event perfectly. It was very Queen-esque -- more is more could be their slogan and they often use a Queen emblem curtain and a reveal. And compared to most of the big arena tours this year, it was a pretty simple set and staging. There is some amazing stuff being done this year. ** Overall, by the time the show hit the LA Forum, I thought the whole staging was pretty much perfect. They toned down some of the lighting/lasers a bit from Chicago to the middle of the tour. And it was perfect by Boston -- that is when they adjusted the lights/lasers on Brian's solo. ** The big surprise to me was that this curtain effect was entirely manual -- and required 6 people to act simultaneously plus the lighting guys (14 of them) plus the 2 smoke guys. And the video crew. That is impressive. ** Queen fans tend to be "uber fans" who watch video repeats and analyze everything. They like the layers of effects and meaning. People will be watching these videos in 20 years -- and discussing the lyrics. There is time for it all to soak in. ** I do not recall much moving around at the beginning of NIH at the concerts I attended. There was clapping when Adam appeared on the screen (Now I'm here.) And again when he appeared on the left screen (Now I'm there.) And a wild cheer when the curtain rose. I think that is what made it so great. That dramatic lift the lights, the smoke, the loud music, the vocals, the crowd. ** The overall impact of that "new man" line also depended on 1. If you know Queen's music (it is the most performed Queen song, every Queen fan knows the lyrics), and 2. Which concert you attended. The sound level between the vocals and music on NIH varied a lot (Chicago was not good), but was great for at least 8 of the last 9 concerts (I skipped the 9th Columbia so can't speak to that sound mix but the recordings for that one are good.)

Q3 - did you post more of your reviews? I saw the first one. Thanks No, I just posted a bit about the on-stage experience. I am still working on the rest. It has been really hard to put this all into words. I am also very, very busy in RL. Partly because I did so much touring!

That iHeart Radio video of Love Kills is so good. I just sent it to a friend who likes A FEW of Adam's performances, notably CTMBTM and FG. LOL She doesn't like Rock or Pop and she has also made a few remarks about his "OTT look", so I rarely even bring up his name anymore. But I haven't given up completely and I'm hoping she'll like this.
But if she doesn't - all I can do is feel sorry for her horrid taste.

I have been wanting to share more, to tell more, to ask more, but I don't know how to find the words. I want to find that connection again that I had with you, with Adam. Normally I am, and feel, so very far away. And then just for a week, travelling first, sharing later and finally just being there, in the same space with so many of you (even though most of us didn't even really meet), and Adam and Queen, I was very close.
How do I even start to bring that magnificent feeling into real life? I am still living in that place in my mind, but at the same time answering emails, signing timewriting sheets, commuting, preparing meetings. It is confusing. I will find a new balance, I'm sure, but I know that once again Adam has kicked me out of my comfort zone and somehow I have to change again.
So how do you do it? How do you take Adam with you in RL? Or is he more like an escape? Hope I can ask these questions, trying to make sense of all of this.
[mods, please move if this should be somewhere else, as I'm aware it is not Adam news, but just don't know where else to put it]

I remained scorned. No calendar today. Went to Post Office this morning to pick up mail and was really excited because I knew my calendar would be there - not to difficult to deliver to a PO Box number - but no. Will try and be patient.

Q3--I don't want to linger on the negative, and I really don't care about the occasional fuck-up (rock'n'roll, baby), but you've mentioned this last bit a number of times. I've watched video of the MSG opening repeatedly and I have no clue what you're talking about! I'm no expert, but as far as I can tell, Adam sings the lyrics exactly as you've written them above. The echo-effect was maybe a bit aggressive in NYC, but otherwise...what am I missing? Here's the MSG opening cued to where the lyrics begin: www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=N3MrV_eGEmg#t=74Yup! Sounds perfect to me! I don't get this at all! If he sang it twice, with the echoes, we'd hear it 4 times and we don't. I just watched the intro to several other shows and it is exactly the same! Me thinks the crew screwed up! Or the echo WAS so aggressive they thought Adam sang it twice! Seems like much ado about nothing to me. But I was told it by 3 separate people on the crew -- one of whom had nothing to do with the missed cue. And they openly discussed quite a number of other screw ups by the crew, Roger, Bri, and Spike. They did not just pluck out this one. > The echo is controlled by the sound engineer and has a cut off. If Adam sang it twice, the second time would be on the echo/music. We would not hear it. But the crew would have. On stage you could easily hear the difference between live Adam and the echo which was more muted up there compared to the audience. The sound was different on stage because the stage monitors did not have the echo. (The speakers face out from the stage, the monitors face the band and crew for NIH and the other A Stage songs.) ** This was not the only spoken cue in the show -- and there were a bunch of misses on the cues. In one concert, Adam did the cue for Radio Ga Ga and he had to do it a second time because Roger missed it. Adam and Roger both just laughed it was beautiful. And Brian teased Adam by ignoring his cue for CLTCL a few times. And Spike missed his cue on the guitar solo at least twice -- back to back -- so I thought that was a planned changed -- then it returned. I am sure someone has a complete list of the production crew f'ups but the IZOD curtain is probably the best -- and that was a production crew miss. There is also the BoRhap where Freddie did not reappear at the end -- just his voice returned. ** For me probably the funniest f'up of the tour was Roger missing the ending of UP in Philly and Adam sort of fixed it. Then the next night (MSG) he got it right and Bri did that big thumbs up and smile. ** Honestly, there were lots of unplanned things that happened in these concerts. That is what makes it rock 'n roll. ** ETA: I just listened to the MSG video posted above -- Adam sings "Now I'm there" twice -- the second time Adam not the echo. It is a bit clearer on this video. It gets louder for the second "Now I'm there" and that is Adam, not the echo. Sounds fine to the audience because we get to hear the echo, the crew that does the curtain and the lights has different sound. youtu.be/MooWZj3CblUAlso, I confirmed that the NIH echo is manually controlled by the sound engineer and is not done via the mike.
