Yup. My understanding is there is actually only one recording of Freddie singing it in the studio. The variations come from post production. Based on the info from Mack (the producer), there are multiple vocal recordings of this song from the Mr. Bad Guy recording sessions. It sounds like this is all the same vocal track but many of Freddie's recording takes are hard for me to distinguish -- and some radically different. I do not know if anyone every has specifically talked about what they used for the Queen rock version vs. the original. All the disco remixes were from the same vocal recording used in the 1985 MBG recording. Talon may know because he has much deeper knowledge than me of late Queen. There has been only one take that has been released...although it has been released 3 times. It was on the Mr. Bad Guy Album, it was reused for the Made In Heaven album and a vocal/piano version which was released on the Freddie Box Set (and again on the 2011 Deluxe Made In Heaven Bonus EP). This was done to just show exactly what Queen used from the MBG track. That's why it's such barebones piano as Freddie filled it out with other keyboards, etc.

But I do not think that was from one "take". I believe they have multiple takes -- all from the same recording session. I will try to find that interview. (My only point was that they probably have alternate vocals by Freddie in the "vault".) ETA: I was responding to Cassie's original post that people were comparing Adam's live performance to Freddie's recorded vocal performance -- and my point was that the vocal track on IWBTLY is not a one-take vocal performance recorded in studio. It is a studio track that was built from multiple takes and modified. Very far from raw studio vocal recording. Same as Adam's studio vocals.

Whether or not they are patched together - quite probable.

What they must have on those studio recordings and the concert recordings!
