Wiki says Cumberbatch is Ambassador of the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND) in the UK. Ten years ago, he also played Stephen Hawking, who has a motor neurone disease related to ALS. So Cumberbatch probably knows more about this disease than the average person.

Actually Benedict Cumberbatch told a lot about the cause and he certainly don't need more attention than he gets right now. Btw. can't we just be happy that this silly thing actually really worked? Why people always feel the need to overanalyze, criticize and lessen things which are just simply good? I agree. Benedict is a HUGE star and doesn't need attention. I started watching Sherlock Holmes and started learning more about him. He is hilarious and has multiple talents, like doing impersonations. I watched him on Graham Norton and it was hilarious. He has a lot of female fans called Cumberbitches and they came from all over the world to see him on the show. Reminded me of someone... Cumberbitches - oh, he hates that name LOL.
