Chiming in on hearing aides and "getting old" -
First of all, wearing a hearing aide doesn't necessarily apply to the elderly only. I lost much of my hearing quite suddenly due to a virus over 10 years ago. After a period of recovery, I was able to drive again and go back to work. I also live in a multigenerational household with varying kid/teenager noise. I have chosen not to cave into my hearing loss, but continue to live my life to the fullest. And I guess I am considered "elderly" as I am over 70 - but I sure don't feel it - "elderly" to me means when you lose that curiosity and spark that makes life worthwhile. (BTW - I never thought of Joan Rivers as "elderly")
I appreciate reading Roger's comments on deafness, because one area that can be a challenge is in social situations as hearing aides don't filter out the various sounds. I wear a hearing aide that shows from the outside as I have a little switch where I can turn the volume up or down, and believe me, that helps in a house with teenagers. I don't care who knows I wear a hearing aide as people will need to know anyway, for example when dealing with bank tellers, I just need to let them know up front, and everything's fine. I don't feel sorry for myself, and I surely don't want others feeling sorry for me either - It is what it is, and I have chosen just to get on with life.
Now, for Adam. In spite of my hearing loss, Adam has the most pure, clear, ringing voice that I've ever heard. There is something about his voice that cuts right through my deafness into my very heart and soul. I call it his "angel voice". The first time I saw and heard him live was at Gridlock and I was utterly astounded. While I follow videos of his many performances, I need to hear him live to get the full effect of his magic - for example, most recently his first notes of "Now I'm Here" at QAL just caught in my heart, and I thought, "Yes, you are here!". At any concert, I need to sit back a bit - which means unfortunately I can't be as close as the thrust or the first row - but I need to get the full effect of his amazing voice as it fills an arena or wherever he is performing.
In closing, I want to quote Glamnut who said - "I will do whatever I have to do to make sure I can see and hear Adam!!" - Well, that's me too.

When I was "young" I felt old, burdened by a desire to fit in and excel ... when I got "old" I went to Burning Man and followed a gorgeous man all over the world for no one's pleasure but my own. Don't wanna trade. Amen, sister! *waves*

I've felt younger this year than I have in the last 20 years.

has this review been posted? ebethallan.com/2014/09/05/queen-adam-lambert/my favorite parts of this review are at the end: So to hear the power of Queen fronted by a sparkling, mischievous, and outright sexy piece of work as Lambert is really as close as you’d get to the original experience in the present day. His voice is not the same timbre as Freddie’s and anyone expecting a replica might have been disappointed, but for me – a true blue fan who saw the boy audition for Idol and compete week by week in 2009 until finishing second – it was a revelation to hear his voice put to full use in terms of range and power. No ermine cloak, but a leopard print suit. —No ermine cloak, but a leopard print suit. Going forward, one can only hope he manages to find a ballsy electronic producer to work with, or a band that is similarly hard and dark and heavy and camp and funky and poppy and slow and sad and serious and ridiculous as Queen was, on top of being excellent. My guess is he won’t: many groups nowadays seem to lack the humour, funk and intelligence of truly iconic bands like Queen or Sabbath. Though if that’s what you’re looking for, you should check out The Defendants! The floor after the show.
