Whose idea was it to release it now? Whoever it is, they are brilliant! It's a total smash. I know many of the behind the scenes team (the Archivist for one) have been pushing them to release something from the 70s FOREVER. For whatever reason other projects came up, and they were shelved. A different concert (Hammersmith 1975) was talked about while QAL was in Hammersmith in 2012 but again disappeared for unknown reasons. BUT Queen also likes anniversaries now and 2014 being the 40th anniversary of these shows, I'm betting the behind the scenes team were able to put the right argument together that now was the time! Thanking them profusely! Regarding the timing, Queen signed a new contract with UMG in December 2013. This is the first of several releases. Why start with the Rainbow 1974 concert? Maybe because it is really great, and it allows them to do Hammersmith Live 1975 next year. Or perhaps they picked it because it is the one that I wanted most! ETA: Also as Talon wrote above, Queen has always liked anniversaries. And I think that they timed the release date to be immediately after Freddie's birthday.

Ok, does this mean I should now take the Live at the Rainbow set OUT of my "save for later" amazon shopping cart and actually finish purchasing the thing? The reviews are in and I think that you must. I am going to need some strong will-power, because I bought tickets to see Live at the Rainbow in a cinema at the end of september. And I want that to be a fresh experience. So I am going to try to not watch or listen before that. Let's see how long I will last

Every year there is something released around Freddie's birthday.

nikki - you are definitely not in the wrong thread. Thinking about and discussing Adam's many gifts are what we like to do best. I think this is one of the reasons he enjoys touring because he can sing a song over and over again in many different ways. It is playful and experimental at the same time. Oh, and I think is was Nile that made him stop Lay Me Down after one take, not Pharrell. I think I remember him commenting about choosing the songs for FYE and that he wanted ones that he would enjoy singing LIVE. So, taking his songs out on tour seem to be a part of the "picking" process.

I had so much fun taking them, alas, it may be some time before he makes his way around these parts again.

Where did everybody go? ::panic-green On Twitter, they've been posting the photos from Adam's private show for the Montana birthday girl Kym-with-a-Y, courtesy of her husband who looks like Willie Nelson minus the braids. One comment: $$$$$ sure does make the world go around....and give you access to body parts!!!! NGL......some shots are a little.....awkward....but I'm not gonna fret...Adam looked like he was having a great time...that is ALL that counts! Sorry only read Twitter. Have no idea how to bring over..... Oh and he is supposedly in Portland?!!

You are in yesterday's thread, so it is bound to be a bit quiet here But I think a lot of us are also still playing catch up (on real life and QAL vids), because today's thread is not much busier. And my first reaction on the BD pics was: 'hands off of my Adam'. But hey... it was his gig, and he is not my Adam anyway. So. Moving on (but I still want wildest moments)
