Adam Lambert to Judge 'American Idol' New York Auditions

It wasn't all that long ago -- the American Idol season-12 finale in 2013 to be exact -- when Adam Lambert told The Hollywood Reporter how he would love to serve as a judge one day.

"Where do I sign?" he cracked on the red carpet. Now just over a year later, Lambert will get his chance filling in for Keith Urban at Wednesday's season-14 auditions being held at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.

Lambert is stepping in due to unfortunate circumstances, as Urban is grieving with his wife, Nicole Kidman, who tragically lost her father, Dr. Antony Kidman, last week.

American Idol shared the news through the show's Twitter account Sept. 15, writing, "Adam Lambert will be serving as guest judge at the NY auditions. Our thoughts are with Keith and his family during this difficult time."

Adam Lambert Working With Max Martin on New Album

Lambert is judging the callback auditions alongside Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr. He previously mentored the season-13 contestants alongside season-five alum Chris Daughtry.

I am really happy with the "no news!" Of course, now I'm wondering if Adam was the go to guy for AI or did they ask anyone else first. And I'm thinking what if Keith decides he doesn't want to do it anymore -- maybe Adam could fill in, but can he do that and put out an album. He is very good at multi-tasking!!!

Says alot they choose Adam as their first ever Alum to judge. Maybe Adam was the most available? Who knows. But the good thing about only three judges oppossed to Four, Adam well get some good screen time. Since Simon i feel Ido.l is missing a judge who can constructively critique. I think Adam is very capable of that, and i dont think hes afraid to be mean when he has to be. He has obviousley been a contestent himself too, so hes been in their shoes. So he can really relate to the contestents, and the contestents can really relate to him. Thought they may have gone Randy, but im pleasently surprised go idol.
