Good morning. Here is the gif. Notice how Adam makes and keeps eye contact with the judges and doesn't even glance around the room.

Seeing there are probably more than a few people unfamiliar with my fellow Aussie here's a bit of high level ... Keith Urban has an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of popular music and is a first class guitarist (he can seriously shred). He has also had his own issues with his voice and had to have an operation a few years ago so am sure he's learned a lot through that experience. Aside from that he's known to just be a really nice person who is grateful for his success (he's also got a kick ass backing band that have been with him for years - but not to kick that dead horse). I'm not a big country music fan but have been surrounded by them for years so quite familiar with Keith the artist, but was pleasantly surprised with Keith the judge. And being a nice guy goes a long way with me. Harry knows a lot about music, have always liked him, but he got a bit curmudgeony then little weird by end of season, but, oh well. JLo, nothing will ever convince me she should be on a panel judging SINGERS. And, whoever mentioned Paula, valid point except that the camera wasn't on Paula 50% of the show. Jmo

Just a thought. When discussing berating lecturing telling communicating with people in a sentence such as
It doesn't work like that at all.
the communication works a bit better when you define what it or that might refer to.
Otherwise, you sow confusion. People attempt to discuss/decipher your meaning and invest it with their own meaning. What did you mean? Who knows? You flunked -- especially when you are a professional communicator.

In defense of the Idol contestants, getting good coaching from mentors and judges is one thing. Being able to incorporate it effectively is another. If a contestant strums an acoustic guitar, playing some basic chords, and a mentor suggests he add riffs and melodic lines like Brian May, no one would expect the contestant to instantly be able to do what took Brian many years to master. If you accept the premise that the voice is an instrument, and takes as long as any other instrument to master, you can understand why contestants, even with excellent coaching, do not change their singing much over the course of a couple of months on Idol. The same can be said about their performance/presentation style and their musical arrangements and interpretations. If Idol wants to graduate seasoned, professional level performers/singers/musicians, they are going to have to CAST seasoned, professional level performers. (Like Adam. Idol, didn't MAKE him, they simply gave him his platform.) Alternatively, if Idol wants to pluck a very young kid out of total obscurity with little musical training or performance experience, and create a STAR, then, they are going to end up producing exactly what the reality shows are known for: a fake, manufactured celebrity who has no cred or staying power in the BUSINESS. One approach finds extremely talented, original artists and gives them a launching pad for a successful career in the business. The other produces a series of popularity contest winners who are adored for a season, and largely ignored afterward. Adam has always made very clear how much he appreciates the platform that AI provided him. But I do remember him stating at one point that he "didn't learn to sing" on Idol. That he knew how to sing when he arrived at Idol. And obviously he knew A LOT about other aspects of performance as well! I don't watch The Voice, but it seems they do chose much more seasoned performers. Now, if those contestants got the followup support given to Idol contestants they might turn out a "star."

OT but not really OT: Don't know how to bring over a post from a previous thread...sorry! so please bear with me....Last night GracieJune posted a link to "that photo" and like all of us AFL Lemmings, I knew what it was and clicked on it anyway. Wanted just one more look.... So I took my 1000'th peek and, for some reason, my eye was drawn to the right side where people click to "like" the photo, etc. and want do I see? The name of a young man who worked for same company as I did...until early last year when company Chairman gave in to stockholders and closed our business down....my friend went on to another job....and I took my place on the refuse pile...eventually retiring.... My reason for mentioning this? I had no idea that there was even a chance he might like Adam! And there he was....photo and all so no chance of mistaken ID...True....he may be just an Idol fan.....or one of the other judges might be a fave....but I don't think he would have picked this particular photo for leaving a comment! I'm going to email him (we exchanged emails at our farewell party last year) just to connect and see if he is a fellow fan! As my 94 year old Mom would say...."This is a real co-inky dink!" Glad I could help you reconnect with your co-worker, although my intent with that link was much more shallow. It had something to do with undone buttons .....

Whoopie Goldberg (The View) was at the club where Vintage Trouble played last night -- she LOVED them and said so many times. I was waiting to hear from her that Adam was there too. She didn't mention that. She did take a video and if I can find it I'll be looking to see if he's in the audience.

I have always had a soft spot for Paula Abdul because she was the first to fully embrace Adam, and stayed the course during the whole show.
The first audition: "You're brilliant." "He's the best we've seen in all the cities."
In response, IIRC, to Cara's statement about theatricality: (paraphrasing) You take everything that makes an artist unique and he is that package.
At one point, (paraphrasing), I believe with every fiber of my being that you are going all the way, all the way to the final.
Her recognition of him was immediate and stayed the course throughout the show. I always gave her kudos for that recognition and appreciation.

I understand that this statement and many of her others have lead to confusion but, there is a chance her vagueness was intentional. She has always held her cards pretty close to her vest. LOVE that Adam is experiencing yet another full circle moment. I did giggle a bit this morning when it hit me that Keith Urban had performed on the season 8 finale night with KA........... and now here is AFL replacing Keith at the judges table.
