I'm going to ask a question, not to be snide, but confused. Why are so many people saying the new tour will be UK and Europe? Isn't the UK part of Europe? It's not continental Europe, but . . . . Maybe there is some new designation I haven't kept up with. Thanks, someone, for answering. They are separate political and economic entities, much as Canada and the United States which also occupy the same continent. The United Kingdom has not joined the European Union and I doubt it will. Plus there is an historical and language divide. lol the wee auld scots biddy is back ,,the uk is part o. the european union we joined many years ago,we have just not become a member of the euro currecncy ,,(bin celebratin expect nae gramar) we opted tae retain the pound ,, our major distinction frae europe is a land mass thing they rest of them are stuck tae gether we are separate ,, git oot yer atlas ,, island !! some of the dispute ,o, scots indepndance wis over the EU if scotland seperated they would loose there membership o, the EU ,,,, AS the uk is a member ,, and scotland became ,and independant country ,they would have to reaply ,, and jist in frae the celerations ,, non able tae think strait

We have actually been members of the European Union since 1973 but we retained our own currency rather than adopting the euro (as have a few other member states). We also have elections for Members of the European Parliament. europa.eu/about-eu/countries/index_en.htmor what Lilly said more colourfully

Yes, I am originally from the UK, and it is customary for the Brits to say "Europe" for the rest of the continent. Thank you. I have been educated today.

I guess I just conflated currency (Eurozone) with EU membership, a mistake I will not make again thanks to you.

They are separate political and economic entities, much as Canada and the United States which also occupy the same continent. The United Kingdom has not joined the European Union and I doubt it will. Plus there is an historical and language divide. also, and less scientifically, UK is an island, and I don't think it has ever been considered a part of Europe. Europe is commonly known as the continent where France, Germany, Spain, Belguim, Netherlands (is that the same as Belguim?) Italy, and former Eastern Block countries, etc. are. Technically, Europe is not even a continent. It is now generally defined by geographers as the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia. The UK not being part of Europe is political and cultural, not geographic. The English channel at Dover is only 20 miles from France. It is relatively shallow, with an average depth of about 120 m (390 ft) at its widest part, reducing to a depth of about 45 m (148 ft) between Dover and Calais. So the people in the UK might want to say they are not part of Europe and "the continent" has historically referred to the mainland part of Europe, but 148 ft does not descent very deep and it is part of the geographic continent of Eurasia. There are islands that are not part of continents like Hawaii, and there are islands that are parts of continents, like the British Isles (there are over 6,000 of them). The government of the Republic of Ireland does not recognize the term "British Isles". Britain and Ireland is used as an alternative description and is preferred by many. However, even that is not popular in Scotland, Wales and other places that are not "British". Atlantic Archipelago been used by some academics to try to solve the problem.
