Hmmm... Billboard Cover: Managers of U2, Pharrell, Madonna & More Unite to Revolutionize the Music Industry ARTICLESNEWS
By Andrew Hampp | October 17, 2014 8:00 AM EDT
[...] And with record-label marketing budgets practically nonexistent these days, managers, whose standard fee remains 15 percent of earnings, have taken on chief marketing officer roles for their clients. Witness Apple's $100 million ad push in support of U2's new album, Songs of Innocence, which Oseary secured in place of an advance radio campaign. They're also overseeing tours, as the live sector hits all-time highs -- including this summer's biggest stadium boom in 20 years. The business incentives for Maverick's nine founding partners, who will leverage their collective assets and skills to build business, are undeniable. They won't detail the financial arrangements among the managers, Maverick and Live Nation, but their creative cross-pollination is already on display. In July, Oseary and Laffitte teamed up to co-manage Alicia Keys, Laffitte is connecting Oseary with radio consultants for the next U2 single, and Roberson is consulting on Madonna's next album with Oseary. This is the most positive part for me because that means the money and suits are looking at stadium tours with a magnifying glass and QAL has to be showing up pretty well in that petri-dish. I love the thought of Adam's name being bandied about in this circle. And of course, there is his uncharacteristic secrecy which plays well in this scenario.

(CNN) -- A federal judge has ruled that Arizona's ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional and has refused to stay his ruling. Unless the state appeals the decision, gay and lesbian couples soon will be able obtain marriage licenses. Judge John Sedwick concluded that provisions of the voter-approved measure were "unconstitutional because they deny same-sex couples the equal protection of the law." www.cnn.com/2014/10/17/justice/arizona-same-sex-marriage-ban/index.html?hpt=hp_t2Another one bites the dust! Oh Nile! I don't know whether to hug you or slap you for spilling that info. It won't be soon though because Avicii just released his new single & the album is not due until around mid 2015! AVICII's second album "Stories" is scheduled for release in Q1 2015 -- unless that moved back and I missed it. That is really possible because I do not follow him that closely. So far there are already at least 3 songs that have been heard: There have already been two promotional singles “The Days“, included on Ralph Lauren’s Denim & Supply commercial and the second promotional song “The Nights“, included on FIFA 15 game soundtrack. "The Days" has also been released as a single 10/3/14 in EU and NZ, 11/23/14 in the UK. I haven't even seen a release date for the US or any confirmation that it will be released here. ETA: by release I mean released to radio, it is available on iTunes because they released it worldwide for sale. Here is the lyric video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDglMK9sgIQ&noredirect=1He has also teased (1:15 track) with Avicii & Billie Joe Armstrong – "No Pleasing A Woman" and Avicii & Wyclef – "Divine Sorrow" (played in concert). Link: turnupthebass.net/2014/08/06/avicii-teases-new-album-stories/ **** Nile strikes me as someone who is optimistic about things. So far Avicii has been teasing collaborators, but there is no mention of either Nile or Adam. **** In any case, if "Calico" is on "Stories", there is a very good chance that Avicii will play it in concert before the album is released.

OT Just want to sound off.... Looking through all the ticket resale sites in the UK for QAL tickets and it seems that there has been a blanket decision to give as little detail as possible about the specifics of the seats. Two weeks ago, I got two sets of tickets directly from the primary sellers and chose the block, the row and the actual seat numbers. For another show I had to go to a resale site. There I could choose the block and the row but not the seat numbers. I could have had seats in a block that held the very best and the very worst of seats - the seat numbers were crucial (to me) - but since I could not tell in advance, I couldn't risk it and went for the next block where all seats are ok but no more than ok. I had phoned the resellers to ask them to be kind enough to call the seller to ask for seat numbers; they could not do that (Indeed, the seller may not have known them yet for whatever reason)... Looking for another show last week, I found that suddenly even the row numbers weren't displayed on a lot of them. So I got the choice of (e.g.)Block 120 £500 or Block 120 £250....What?! (Looking at you Stubhub...) NOW, it has stepped up another notch - today a couple of sites have only the tier revealed for some of their tickets e.g First tier £300 or First tier £150...(looking at you Viagogo)...These seats could be almost anywhere in these vast arenas. There is no way of comparing the choice - it's an almost complete shot in the dark at vastly inflated prices. Perhaps they are seats that aren't good and didn't sell quickly when more info was given....but still, the buyer should know what he is buying. Not so many years ago, these sites would not accept tickets for resale unless full details were given. Presumably the next step is to sell tickets to a concert with no more detail than the venue and the artist's name. I have bought many tickets on resale sites over the years - both here and in the US and have never come across this deliberate lack of information before. AAARRGGGG!!! Carry 0n....

Avicii said recently that the album is not coming out until he has released almost all the singles! Ya! Interesting strategy! Also, he has something released here because it is doing quite well on iTunes! Can't check it on my phone, but it was quite high!
ETA: it is The Days, released here last week!!
