So a "VIP" airline ticket from London is £10k? Wow! I'm surprised anyone in Brian's camp would ever consider putting the guitar in cargo/baggage. It's more than just a precaution against rough handling. Wood instruments are very susceptible to changes in temperature, and cargo bays are not generally climate controlled. We string players deal with this regularly. My violin fits overhead (used to fit under my feet in the olden days). I would never consider checking it as baggage. Cellist often by a separate seat. I think you can rest assured that the guitar NEVER goes in the cargo bay and always has its own seat on the plane. That slant just makes the story more interesting. I also follow Nile Rogers and just the other day an airline was giving him grief about the seat he booked for his guitar. It too ALWAYS has its own seat on the plane. Sounds like the £10k may have been two tickets: "A member of staff and the guitar were bumped up to first class where he had to purchase a seat for it as it couldn’t go in the overhead locker."

Do you have any idea why the airline was giving Nile grief? Why would they care who or what is in the seat as long as it's paid for?

First, brianmay.com webmistress posts everything in the press they find be it trashing or glowing, true or not - it seems only requirement is that it's about Queen/Brian. As to the guitar, I'm thinking that it's possible that the details of the performance were not agreed beforehand. Could it be that the band, the arrangement and other players' instruments etc. required a different guitar? Well, reading the posts above with more info it sounds odd and I'm starting to think that the story is bogus and Brian didn't bring his instrument for one song but borrowed a guitar instead. However, regardless of the guitar thing, upon learning the news that Brian would attend the awards gala and have a book signing too, I was thinking that he might stay for a few days. Enjoying the sunny weather and maybe spending some time in a studio too - preferably with Adam, of course, trying out something new perhaps. Then Nile's problem. I got the impression that maybe it was about a name in the ticket. The airline company is doing a lot of cheap flights with strict regulations on luggage and non-transferable tickets, don't know if this flight was one of those, but the personnel might be wired to be extra careful and perhaps not understanding right away that luggage which is usually not allowed in the passenger space and is not a person, needs its own ticket. Maybe together with some earlier prompting to keep passenger list in order with correct names, IDK.

Yes, Nile's tweets seemed to indicate that both tickets were booked in his name and that was what created his problems.
