Adam before and after the Audition
This is a report from Mario Lopez (@cozmod) a producer for Great Day (KMPH Fox 26), Fresno's morning show. He happened to interview Adam at his third and final Idol audition. This report was broadcast after the Idol finale.
Adam is note ably calm and pleasant and personable -- not nervous at all. And extremely calm after he got his "ticket to Hollywood".

Great Adam quote…..
Adam Lambert talking about Freddie Mercury:
"There's never going to be another, and I'm not replacing him. That's not what I'm doing. I'm trying to keep the memory alive, and remind people how amazing he was, without imitating him. I'm trying to share with the audience how much he inspired me."

The Instagram photo of Adam and sambucam (above) reminded me of this wonderful short piece written by Adam for OUT Magazine.
Adam's observations about David Bowie helped me realize how Adam also gives “his masculinity an edgy and mysterious undercurrent” – something that is very attractive and sometimes disconcerting to people depending on your perspective.
Adam's style and image mastery is powerful and feels authentic, planned but not contrived, and entirely in his control. And something very unusual in this age of professional stylists and image consultants.
My Bowie: Adam Lambert

My father is a huge Bowie fan, and about the time I first got interested in what he was listening to, he pulled out the Diamond Dogs album. The cover was just so cool and trippy and weird. At that point I was really into Halloween and costumes, and when my dad played me the album, I thought, Oh, it’s a Halloween thing. I was maybe 8 or 9, but I didn’t really start appreciating Bowie for myself until my early twenties, when I was getting into glam rock. A light bulb went off—I wasn’t into drag, I didn’t want to dress like a woman, but I wanted to express my gender and artistic identity differently than the mainstream. Bowie was a key inspiration.
It was about the androgyny of mixing it up, and that was what was so incredible about his concepts -- he was one of the first rock stars to really push the idea that sexuality was not black and white but an exploration. Later, when he finally made his big American breakthrough in the ’80s working with Nile Rodgers on Let’s Dance, his image shifted to a more masculine sensibility. Considering how far he had pushed it the decade previous, however, it gave his masculinity an edgy and mysterious undercurrent. I actually love Young Americans so much because it was the album where he jumped into Philly soul and it got very funky and rhythmic; to hear someone with his sensibility going to that place is really inspiring.

Sidebar: In case you do not recall the cover of Diamond Dogs
An album released by RCA Records on April 24 1974. The original cover art is on the top and the censored cover is below.
The cover art was painted by Belgian artist Guy Peellaert. It was controversial as the full painting clearly showed the hybrid's genitalia. Very few copies of this original cover made their way into circulation at the time of the album's release. The genitalia were quickly airbrushed out for the 1974 LP's gatefold sleeve, although the original artwork (and another rejected cover featuring Bowie in a sombrero cordobés holding onto a ravenous dog, an image captured by Terry O'Neill[7]) was included in subsequent Rykodisc/EMI re-issues.
The original withdrawn 1974 albums are among the most expensive record collectibles of all time. In 2003, a copy of the withdrawn version of the original RCA Diamond Dogs album sold for $3,550.00 on eBay. They are very rare. Be careful if you decide to spend $10K on one of these covers, because the album was re-issued with the original art by Ryko in the 1990’s.

‘American Idol': Harry Connick Jr. hopes audition changes will create a superstar season 14
January 7, 2015 | Filed in: American Idol, Television.
By RODNEY HO/rho@ajc.com, originally filed January 7, 2015
I got to speak to HCJ for 15 minutes yesterday one on one, the first time “Idol” PR gave me time with a judge like this right before a season debut. I presume I was lucky enough to get this time because I am one of the few writers still covering the show. (In the past, we’d usually have to take in a mass phone press conference with other media and squeeze in a question or two.)
Anyway, here’s my Q&A, edited for clarity. Before we officially started, I did tell him that the regular readers of this blog (which was a stand-alone “Idol” blog from 2005 to 2011) were huge fans of his and had campaigned for him becoming a judge years before it happened. He sounded genuinely flattered. (As for “Idol” viewers who want to live comment about the show, use this site until 9 p.m. That’s when my pre-written recap will come right up.)
…. Just the Adam portion …
Q: How was Adam Lambert as a guest judge? [He subbed in one day for Keith Urban.]
HCJ: He was terrific. It was so cool. I’ve been a fan since he first came on the show. Nobody on the judge’s panel has ever had his perspective. He was able to give some really specific advice that was really valuable. And he’s a really nice guy. Funny and charming. We had a nice time. He is a great talent.
