I also think his own music is stronger that what was released in E2, unfortunately the only Adam music the general public knows is what was released, the contrived pop. At least one of the problems, FURCA being afraid of letting Adam sink or swim on his merits, has been addressed. Fingers crossed that the rest of the pieces fall into place for him. He has worked hard and so deserves the rewards. I can only imagine how hard that era had to be on him, it is painful to even think about. It is so hard to predict a hit...IMHO the only thing an artist can do is have a great , supportive record company,is that even possible, write from his heart and experiences, hope radio will play the music and then hope the public identifies with the theme and buys the music.. Doesn't seem that hard right???..LOL

Sheath your sword. Followup by the knothead: plumcomm @edsglambert it was on the radio that there was a poll in the Guardian Newspaper that put Queen & Adam Lambert favourite to do it Eeeeek! I wanted to reward the messenger ..... award them knighthood(?) !!!! for a great message. Great News, even if leaked quite early ... I am very much behind the the idea. Ever since Adele's song I was very jealous.
Hopefully that NYE performance and this UK leg of tour can pull the interest of the Bond producers and want to take a look of what the QAL can do for them. I love Adele but hope it's not that whiny voice of Sam Smith that they choose to sing in the movie. Don't take me wrong I listened one of his song and kind of like it but the more I listen to it the more I notice the whiny thing and it turns me of.

Ok, I will be advocatus diaboli here - what if our love and respect for Adam and his capabilities and voice distort our reception of his music? haha...this is an argument I can't refute as I am totally and completely under the spell of his voice... Having said that I somehow manage to dislike some of his songs so that gives me hope for a hint of sanity still left in me.... 8-) I can't refute this argument either , but I noticed that when we defend Adam or even just discuss about him we rather refer to quality of his voice than quality of his music.

I think the article in question was pretty thorough and flattering to both Queen and Adam. The only comment that was less than fully on board was not about him so much as his his music, to date....and I agree with many of you that he has not really managed to release a 'hit' track...and I also think some of the reasons can be fixed but it takes Adam to recognize that and decide if he wants to change things.
The fact of the matter is that the very best songs, imho, had lyrics that made them unsellable and it is that simple. If the lyrics on Shady were either tamer and less homoerotic...or somehow captured the emotions...it could/would have been released as a single and been a massive hit. The lyrics killed that song from the get go....Adam is no dummy and he had to know that. May have been fun to challenge the status quo but when you do that, there are consequences...it is that simple.
This may be an instance where Adam's enunciation is TOO good....if peeps could not hear the lyrics so clearly, and if Adam did not like illustrating them so realistically, perhaps he could get away with it more but...some of that is what makes us care for him so much. But, again, he is not a horny 20 year old kid, he is a grown ass man...not all his music makes this clear
Music is at its best when it moves us emotionally or that we can somehow connect with. That is why the emotions can be specific...but their application must be reasonably universal. Long story short, the melody and beat of Shady is par excellent, but the lyrics did it in.
Although Trespassing [the song] was not my favourite [liked but not loved], I do think it, and Cuckoo, could have become hits with the right promotion....but again, the lyrics in both of those had more universality and acceptability...are far more easy to get into and project....
I love Adam's performance style and everything about him. But it is no coincidence that he is getting much more positive press in his performance with Queen, where his constant erections are not highlighted and he does not regularly imitate masturbation and fellatio. Just saying....if he goes back to that, he will lose much of his hard won audience and that would be such a shame...and blaming the leavers because they don't 'get' him, or are close-minded, yada yada yada, will not help or change the situation. YMMV of course.....and I personally will always be there... and I could, and have often been, completely wrong...

What are the parameters? What are the qualifiers? It is all so individual and subjective... Is it a "test of time" as augenpoesie suggested? Is it "popularity" as in "chart placement"? Is it some technical (chords, key, etc) characteristics? I have no idea... For instance I find WWFM to be a dull, whiny little song with a simplistic message, a song with totally uninteresting and annoying melody - yet it's a "hit". Is it "quality" music? Is it any better than for instance Broken Open - a song with deep meaning and amazingly haunting melody?

Sorry, but I also really love the quality and the diversity of his music!!! (... Especially when I compare it to all the crap that I hear on the radio all the time!) Not to mention the beautiful and meaningful lyrics of all of his songs ...!!!
