How can 3 tweets stir up so much dust?

3 little tweets – started it all
An unknown DJ from a low power station in the New York metro, tweeted an article from the Today Mom (NBC Today Show) blog – with what appeared to me to be a lame attempt at a joke.
Sometimes things that sound funny live, are not funny on twitter because there is no tone, no laugh. That is why most savvy digital communicators use emoticons with jokes – to give readers a clue. The DJ, Abel Sanchez, did not include any joke clues with his tweet.
The Tweet probably would have gone unnoticed except by Abel’s 564 followers except that he included @adamlambert in his tweet. Adam fans retweeted it and Adam noticed it. Adam retweeted it and added a comment of his own. It really looks like Adam retweeted it to respond to the Today Mom article and not to respond to Abelsanchez. But that is just my interpretation.

• If society didn't work so hard to reinforce gender role stereotypes we would have a much more well-adjusted& open-minded future generation.
Some Adam fans celebrated Adam’s statement of gender freedom, some commented on the article, some pushed people to vote in the poll that accompanied the article and a bunch of fans – a Tswarm – sent comment to Abel Sanchez. Some of those comments were merely telling Abel the tweet wasn’t funny, some insulted Abel.
A bit later in the day, after some craziness online, Adam tweeted one tweet and changed to entire tone of the Tswarm – and many other people on Twitter including Abel Sanchez.

Now here is the rest of the story…..
First, let’s start with the actors in yesterday’s small passion play.
Adam Lambert: Global pop sensation who is working on his second album. Adam happens to be a gay man who liked to wear stage make-up and costumes when he was a child. We do not know if he ever painted his toenails pink when he was young.
Today online: An online blog operated by MSNBC.com and branded with the Today Show – it is designed to generate clicks. Published the article.
Kavita Varma White: Freelance blogger who also is Assistant Editor of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel; author of the article.
CMI (Culture and Media Institute): A non-profit organization with a mission to preserve and help restore America’s culture, character, traditional values, and morals against the assault of the liberal media elite, and to promote fair portrayal of social conservatives and religious believers in the media. CMI, the cultural division of the Media Research Center, is dedicated to correcting misconceptions in the media about social conservatism and religious faith. As the media and entertainment industry grow more aggressive in assailing people and institutions that hold traditional values, CMI is drawing on MRC’s vast resources to counterpunch with a unique mix of timely facts, analyses and arguments.
MRC (Media Research Center): "America's Media Watchdog," strives to bring balance to the news media. Leaders of America's conservative movement have long believed that within the national news media a strident liberal bias existed that influenced the public's understanding of critical issues. On October 1, 1987, a group of young determined conservatives set out to not only prove — through sound scientific research — that liberal bias in the media does exist and undermines traditional American values, but also to neutralize its impact on the American political scene. What they launched that fall is the now acclaimed — Media Research Center (MRC). The MRC, headquartered in Alexandria, VA, began modestly with a handful of employees, a black and white TV, and a rented computer. The first order of business was to organize a research operation second to none. For years, conservatives could only present the anecdotal evidence of liberal journalists' bias — a question in this interview, a statement in that report. However, anecdotal examples of bias do not prove a liberal agenda. Only through thorough, comprehensive, and ongoing analysis based on quantitative and qualitative research can one document liberal bias in the media. From a $339,000 initial annual budget, the MRC has grown to be the nation's largest and most sophisticated television and monitoring operation, now employing 60 professional staff with a $10 million annual budget.
Abel Sanchez: a DJ on a low-power NY radio station afternoon drive time, format variety. Weekend DJ on an internet radio station – dance format: www.energy981.com/ who tried to make a joke. (Perhaps he was tired from working 7 days a week trying to make it in a very tough business.)

Note the inelegant way they shoehorn in Michelle Obama!
Yesterday, 4.13.11, the Today Show tweeted this:
@todayshow J.Crew ad stirs up controversy w/pink nail polish on.today.com/i536jS
With a link to this article:
Brown adds that the ad is part of something bigger:
Seattle-based Kilodavis wrote the children's book My Princess Boy, which was inspired by her own son who is partial to wearing dresses. We asked her what she thinks about the ad and Brown’s story, both of which were sent to her by numerous Facebook friends.
Says Kilodavis: “I feel like the ad is very natural, very real. I love the fact that it shows a mom who is supporting her son. Maybe the little boy likes pink and likes his toenails painted. Is it harming anyone?” She adds: “Why does it have to be categorized as gender confusion? We just have to get to a place of acceptance.”
Kilodavis showed the ad to both of her sons and asked them what they thought.
Nine-year-old Dkobe responded: “Oh, he looks happy.”
Meanwhile, 5-year-old Dyson said: “Can I paint mine pink, too?”

@abelsanchez
@borneobaby Running out of time today... But I promise to give @adamlambert a spin shortly after starting my shift tomorrow (2p est)
This continued on for hours. How we got here – who knows? The result is that a conversation happened. And maybe a few people thought about a small boy with pink nail polish on his toes just a bit more kindly – and smiled with a bit more understanding. They are just children.
All I know is that tomorrow I will attend a hugely important meeting wearing pink nail polish. I will be the only one who knows why unless there is a secret Adam fan in the boardroom.

Ever since he was a kid his pass time was listening to the radio and imitating his favorite DJ's, soon after getting turntables and a mixer as a gift from his dad, his passion for playing music had him dj-ing parties. Before long he was playing in local NJ clubs. But it wasn't the same as being on the radio. So Abel enrolled into The Connecticut School Of Broadcasting, upon graduating... Abel got his start at 103.5 WKTU where he was a phone-op/producer, it was there that he established a friendship with Broadway Bill-lee and his wife Beth Bacall (mid-days WAWZ). Abel wasted no time in absorbing all he could from his mentors, soon there-after Abel landed an On-Air gig at WAWZ/STAR 99.1 NYC Where under Beth Bacall's tutelage he quickly became an established personality taking his time slot which was previously arbition rated in 21st place to a tie for 4th place.
Abel has been an A.I.R Award nominee for Mixshow DJ of the Year. In addition to his on air talents his production skills did not go unnoticed as he completely re-imaged and rebranded Star 99.1.
These abilities caught the attention of Jarad Broadcasting/TMO's O.M. who recruited Abel to be the the voice of "The World Famous" WLIR as well as becoming the afternoon personality for sister station WBON 98.5 "La Fiesta" In addition, Abel was Production Director for all three Jarad Broadcasting Stations WLIR 107.1, WBON 98.5, WDRE/Party 105. When given the opportunity to join WNYZ/Pulse 87.7 staff Abel did not hesitate!
WNYZ is a low-power television station that serves New York City. WNYZ's television signal broadcasts in analog on VHF channel 6 and now also broadcasts on digital channel 6.1 with a virtual channel of 1.1.

J.CREW Pushes Transgendered Child Propaganda
Women's clothing company highlights pink nail-polish wearing boy in promotional email By Erin R. Brown Friday, April 08, 2011 12:37 PM EDT
J.CREW, a popular preppy woman's clothing brand and favorite affordable line of first lady Michelle Obama, is targeting a new demographic - mothers of gender-confused young boys. At least, that's the impression given by a new marketing piece that features blatant propaganda celebrating transgendered children.

J.Crew ad stirs up controversy with pink nail polish
4.13.11 By Kavita Varma-White
There’s a new J.Crew ad that has some people’s undergarments in the proverbial wad.
Let’s see if you can figure out what has sparked the mini-controversy:
A. The mailer, sent out April 5, was a promotion for free shipping if a customer spends $150 or more.
B. The mailer, which featured J.Crew designer Jenna Lyons and her darling, tow-headed son Beckett, highlights a grey-and-white Coastline-stripe pullover, $65.
C. The photo shows Lyons smiling and holding Beckett’s feet, which are painted in pink Essie for J.CREW nail polish, and has Lyons’ quote, “Lucky for me, I ended up with a boy whose favorite color is pink.”
Since free shipping is always nice, and nautical stripes are totally in this spring, the reason for concern must be “C.” Or as this story from the Culture and Media Institute describes, it’s that J.Crew is “targeting a new demographic – mothers of gender-confused boys.”
Writes CMI’s Erin R. Brown:
(Hmmmm. We think the reason J.Crew used the photo is that it shows a happy, stylish mom bonding with her kid. (Doesn’t that make you want to buy a pullover, stat?) Plus, bright pink nail polish is all kinds of fun, especially on little toenails.)

Writes CMI’s Erin R. Brown:
J.CREW, known for its tasteful and modest clothing, apparently does not mind exploiting Beckett behind the façade of liberal, transgendered identity politics. One has to wonder what young boys in pink nail polish has to do with selling women's clothing.
(Hmmmm. We think the reason J.Crew used the photo is that it shows a happy, stylish mom bonding with her kid. (Doesn’t that make you want to buy a pullover, stat?) Plus, bright pink nail polish is all kinds of fun, especially on little toenails.)
Brown adds that the ad is part of something bigger:
Propaganda pushing the celebration of gender-confused boys wanting to dress and act like girls is a growing trend, seeping into mainstream culture. NBC's Today show on January 3 featured a segment on the 'Princess Boy' in which five-year-old Dyson Kilodavis was seen twirling in pink ballerina tutu, much to the delight of his mother Cheryl and host Meredith Vieira.

AdamLambert: GenderConfusion? I don't think it's that deep--- children should have full freedom of expression. It's everyone else who's confused.
If society didn't work so hard to reinforce gender role stereotypes we would have a much more well-adjusted& open-minded future generation.

@abelsanchez It would be awesome indeed if you gave Aftermath Remix by @adamlambert a spin! Thanks for your support!
@abelsanchez
