Recap of Glasgow.....with a bit of Newcastle.
The downside to travelling to see QALs is that it's so difficult to keep in touch on Atop. I have read almost nothing of the threads since Tuesday and I can't wait to read about Idol and Record deals.....we live in exciting times!
Newcastle was tricky. Tough standing audience with hands glued to armpits or beer mugs. They came to life for Brian and Roger and Radio Gaga. The sound was horrible where I was (a couple of rows off the floor, close to the stage) and talking with others later, it seems it was not a localised problem. The first song opened the show with none of the build-up and excitement of NIH and Adam was on the back foot for quite a few songs.
But he worked SO hard....was so charming....he won through....and I have to say that most/all the set run changes that we thought should be made,
were made the next night.
Such a good reminder that it's not always easy adulation....but what a professional, hardworking and focused man he is.
And then...
GLASGOW!
Chalk and cheese... This crowd was ready to love him and Adam was at his most relaxed, cutest and the 'dirtiest' I've ever seen him with Queen. He was having fun again. I believe the Newcastle reviews were great so that would perhaps have eased the way a little. The running order was changed and it worked so much better though the opening still doesn't compare with NIH.
I was very close and could see how light his make-up was; he looks so healthy and youthful. The sound was great and they all looked more relaxed than the night before. The bagpiper and the tartan trousers all went down well. (I
love the trousers).
Couldn't tear myself away from a meal with
Momtomany, Lilly and Tillyfilly to queue early - I was the only one with a standing ticket and, of course, Mom was on the stage! For weeks I'd resigned myself to not being tough enough to get near the front so I was prepared.
Doors opened at 6.30 so about 6.40 i went into the foyer, showed my ticket, was told to stand in a line of about 40 people.....and literally five minutes later, we filed into an empty arena. No one rushed; I tried out a few different locations before I settled behind a tiny person just below Adam's mic. All the time I was thinking 'how has this happened? Where is everyone?' It was unbelievable. Fair play - Lilly had told me no one queues for concerts in Glasgow.
I stood with the most excited, funny, outgoing group of people who, for a few hours became my best friends. Everyone introduced themselves, shook hands, including a charming young man and his two sisters (early 30s). Ten minutes before the start, this man insisted on getting me a beaker of water from the bar when I said how thirsty I was.(I don't drink, except in Vegas...ouch!) I begged him not to go as the floor was now rammed full and tightly packed - but he went and got his place back!
I asked him how a crowd 200 deep let him move through to the very front five minutes before the start and he said, 'I said excuse me, please'.....
so there's the secret folks! Lol.
Suddenly Have to go and no time to edit.....and just realised I don't know how to save. Will post and come back later
Just got back...
Wanted to say how beautifully the exchange of energy worked in Glasgow. The audience reaction fed Adam....then the audience responded...then Adam...it got better and better.
Those around me had never seen him before but they loved him; they laughed with him; sang with him - and the young girls screamed at the sexy bits! These are new young fans for A3.
The Thrust now has steps and Adam went down into the crowd and both men and women reached out to him. I was surprised to see him kiss an older lady on both cheeks (she was surprised as well!) and it was this lady he was referring to when he spoke of a 'mother type'...no one else.
Also I would suspect that his talk of bum pinching was just happy banter....but
he was feeling very sexy and even introduced Somebody to Love by asking the audience to help him find somebody..
..TONIGHT!
My new Bffs knew that I had seen a number (!) of QALs and that I was a real Adam fan. It seemed like every few minutes someone leant in to say that 'your boy' is doing good. They were so warm and I was so moved.
Talking of being moved....when the gorgeous Momtomany took her stage seat, I waved to get her attention, in vain. I was just too near the front, I think. LOL. Suddenly, with no warning at all, a young man grabbed me around the knees and with what must have been superhuman strength (believe me!) he propelled me into the air, ordering me to get on his shoulders. YIKES!!! I could do nothing to stop it unless I'd pitched myself forward like some superannuated stage diver.
Instead of which, I must have looked like one of those synchronised swimmers being thrust up from the surface of the sea of heads. He only put me down when he was sure Mom had seen me...'there you go' he said. So very kind of him....I could only say 'thank you'...I was crying with laughter....
Then everyone was asking how Mom got her seat - was she a 'Queen' wife, journalist? In explaining, I also said, for fun, that they would see Adam dance with her later. They took it with a pinch of salt but when it happened, about a dozen people hugged and congratulated
me!!!It was the funniest, most surreal thing ever....happy, funny people I will always remember.
ADAM CREATED THIS....IT'S ADAM'S FAULT.But it was Momtomany's fault that we got left behind at the arena afterwards (why don't we go in here for a drink until the taxi queue dies down?) and got drenched to the skin so that my legs steamed in the taxi and talked in my little attic bedroom until 3am....
Loved every single minute. Special thanks to her and to the very funny Lilly (who speaks perfect English though she'll hate me for blowing her cover) and Tillyfilly, who continues to educate me on things my mother never told me because my mother didn't know either.
