Chills is right. I just heard it live on the stream. It's an A4. That is right at or slightly above his natural break between chest and head voice. Most of the time Adam sings the note full voice. Actually, he usually sings up to D5 in full voice. Chest plus head together. On that particular note, he floats it in head voice, blended perfectly with the lower notes of light chest voice. Masterful.
As for the breathing, if he wants you to hear him breathe, he makes it audible. It is for dramatic effect. I think he used to do it more, but I haven't heard it recently, now that you mention it.
