Prob around 2012 it was walking on new ground. The tour was kinda under the radar too. Adam hadn't yet wan the masses over. But as he got more confident and confident. He then absoloutley nailed the nye show in front of 12 mill Ppl. Which is the moment the masses in the UK anyway started to take notice. I also think sold out arenas and stadiums on the lvl of all the big acts. Is remarkable and kinda too hard to ignore anymore.

I think Adam is looking and sounding greater than ever. However, he was gorgeous and sounded amazing in 2012 when QAL played Hammersmith. Why was he looked at askance and barely accepted by many in that iteration, whereas the accolades and praise are unbelievable this time? Granted Glamberts can explain in great detail what is different about every single performance. They would notice. But the general public and the media? What is so markedly different and superior this time around? Was it the PR and marketing work? The iHeart festival? I don't get it. I am thrilled to see Adam accorded the acclaim he so deeply deserves. I guess I should not look this gift horse or media horse in the mouth, huh? My thoughts mirror yours (just not so well said). It couldn't all be NYE, could it?

First the Idol platform, now the Queen platform. I'd say you can have the talent, many do, but Adam is the whole "larger-than-life-package." We often cite "balls of steel," but it is also perserverance and continually upping his game. Had he stayed solely his Zodiac/GNT self, his musical theatre self, or his Idol self, he wouldn't be where he is today. Strategic, clever, quick study--he has rolled the best of all of his selves into the polished performer we see today. As Q3 said, he will go higher. It seems the relaxed, even more confident performer that we see now, is partly Adam knowing he will get to entertain the rest of his life. I'm not sure Adam could have a better gig/platform than Queen and their talent and catalogue, but I am sure he is "taking it all in." Heartened by Queen's longevity and their varying musical styles, also supports his artistic sensibilities. How wonderful it must feel to be appreciated and validated for all his hard work and risk-taking. I'm so hoping he gets an opportunity to do a James Bond movie theme song, now that the timing seems so right. Well.. IDK what opportunities will be born by this tour, but I am damn sure some amazing NEXT OPPORTUNITY will materialize! The whole Q & AL collaboration history is one of "one event leads to the next" in this truly wonderful progression.... I can't wait to see what'll emerge for both Adam's solo and various collaboration projects!

I can only guess why Adam is getting such acclaim now. You can try to add up some of the things that are different from 2012, but mostly I think it's Brian and Roger taking a risk on the big shows. That and getting the TV big spot on NYE. However, I don't think British TV would have been as interested if the big UK concerts weren't on the table. You could ignore the relatively small Hammersmith in 2012, but it seems to me that the media couldn't ignore sold out arenas in 2014 (oops!) 2015. It's all because of Melvin. I think my DH looks better in a beard and I think Adam does too. It makes his face thinner and that he reminds everyone of George Michael with it is a positive. He had on too much makeup at the EMAs and I credit his association with Sauli as well as just growing out of feeling like he had to be OUT THERE as opposed to just being. Also that he is a lot less deferential, he's now the leader in songs and Bri and Rog trust him and follow him on changeups as opposed to following a plan. There were a lot of complaints on the Queen boards in 2012 that Bri was losing his skills on the guitar and had to have another player behind the big speakers to play a lot of the parts. I don't know if that was true or not. Adam learns from journeys and it has been a journey of growth. When he found that leopard suit and crown and decided to wear them he also decided to own it. Now England show and the audience participation is off the charts but I do think 50% of that is simply the crowd. They've done this before wheras many in the US hadn't. And Adam has found better bits for for his improv that the audience likes more. And when things get on a roll the people want to be part of it. I think the single timing and the album timing is great.

I've also been trying to figure out what is different this time around. On QOL, many posters said that Adam has toned down, and thought that was a good thing. I read comments that his vibrato was more controlled, and he did less "warbling", which someone corrected as melisma, because he "can".
As I mentioned in the past, I hardly detect vibrato now, although I've read comments on YouTube to the effect that every note he sings is "bad" vibrato. Just don't get it. Of course, these people did not go to a show.
Pleasantly, I have not read any super negative comments from any attendee this time around. It's pretty amazing actually. Even the Ticketmaster reviews are up to 276, still only 2 3-star, less than 20 4 star and the rest 5 star.

Yes, Adam has grown more into the Queen catalog over the years, but the two SSR examples from above (2012 vs 2015) imo actually prove the opposite. Adam was already there in 2012, and he even then had the Hammersmith audience in the palm of his hand (there were tons of tweets from major Queen fans confirming this at the time). But he and Queen did not have the media approval yet.
Money talks loudly, and Queen sells out arenas across the globe now and every promoter in the world knows that. Promoters want nothing more than a surefire sell-out arena tour. Those are far and few between.
Then, once the BBC endorsed the venture with their NYE gig, every reporter who previously side-eyed them, in the interest of self-preservation as a credible journalist, now could safely flip in his/her opinion, and sing QAL's praises.
It has everything to do with the soil being ready this time, and the smallest difference imo is Adam himself. Yes, some songs have gotten tighter, he owns DSMN now, can take selfies while singing along. But he was brilliant in 2012 too, the media just did not want to believe it yet, and in the US, especially the most established newspaper reporters, the ones with the most personal risk of looking like fools, did not want to believe it in 2014 either. They wrote those very few most critical reports. But given that the majority of the US did not know that yet or did not care, they got away with it. Adam has stayed his course, but the world he is walking in is changing for him, and NYE UK was a landslide of a change. I think it will make a huge difference going forward, especially if BBC now supports his single, which we will have to see. I am hopeful, this will happen. Love the new soft promotion and how WB is proud to have him on board. Yes, they get it, hope they are successful with everything they have planned for him.
=====
Btw, does anyone know, why it is the South African WB twitter handle that happens to be so actively promoting Adam at this point? Are they having a bigger role than just representing SA?

I think in 2012 Hammersmith, Adam felt like he's only guest singer and he felt awestruck singing next to Brian and Roger. Media and Q-fans could see that. He mentioned this on Sunday Telegraph interview. Also they didn't do a lot of promotion in 2012.
This time around Adam has been thru the US, Asia and Australia legs of tour and he feels he's part of the band now so he's more relax and trust his instinct. This time around they had really good promotions. Started with UK XFactor then the biggest one was the BBC NYE, where 12-13millions people saw them and they could see and hear that Adam's way better than 2012. IMO.
