I love the lyrics. I don't find them at the typical cheesy charity song type. That line "I got my jewels I got a rocket" if you watch him his hand gesture goes to his crotch kind of like he did with the kaleidescope lyric in DTRH and I cracked up. Great innuendo there. It had a great message without being overly preachy. Yeah it delivers the message with sass Did we ever reach a consensus on whether he was lip syncing or not? Not that I really care or that it would be that big of a deal - wouldn't be his final call I suspect. But lack of any audible breath during the song seemed like a bit of a give away from me especially given the speed of the lyrics. I mean he's good but is he THAT good... LOL

LOL The biggest giveaway for me is the difference in sound between his voice during the song and him saying "open Sesame" after the song. And the volume on "Open Sesame" is lower although he is almost screaming. You know what I mean? The biggest giveaway is always when the artist says something after the song and it sounds different And there were other suspicious moments too. But it's a great performance nevertheless. I guess it's a difficult song to sing and maybe he had not enough time to rehearse, plus Jet lag, I mean, he arrived just the day before in a party plane. I'm so obsessed with the song :D I have listened to it so often, I know the comments of the commentators by heart :-[

I'm not going to stop being a fan. But of us have a slightly different way of watching him and being a fan. And I can just feel my heart break a little following this discussion on the main thread. Could we just leave it at that?

Cassie
Back reading today...I think May 27, 2013 you mentioned a lot of highly trained singers know of Adam and have great respect for his voice and technical mastery.
On that note, Is it more respect for his technical mastery because I really don't hear a opera quality in his voice? I don't hear a Pavarotti or Placido Domingo . I'm just wondering how they took note of him since I identify him w pop and not opera quality vocals. The only time I've heard a few note similar to opera was those few bars in Hair.
Secondly, I was talking to my neighbor yesterday who has a daughter training for opera. I use to hear her do her 'scales' at night. I asked for an update and they mentioned their daughter who is 26 is not ready (voice wise) for a company position. She said opera singers do not reach maturity until 30'sh and that they could ruin their voice. Is she taking gooblgob... If in fact, this is a general guideline for future opera singers, then how is Jackie Euchenka sp?) who is maybe 14 now, how is she performing at numerous events?

No, Adam does not sing opera (well, I guess he did at one time with the "Three Waiters" gig). And, he generally does not sing in an operatic style. But, he sings using a lot of classical techniques. The way he focuses his voice in his "mask" or the front of his skull and sinuses to get that pure, ringing tone. Highly desired in classical, opera singing. His diction. His breath support. His lyrical lines. He is able to use those techniques and adapt them to a pop style sound, which is unusual. I am confident if he wanted to train to get a more traditional operatic sound to his voice, he would be very successful. "Soaked," performed in the GNT had hints of a more operatic style. No, Adam does not have the same type of tenor voice as Pavorotti or Placido. I think that Pavorotti is considered a lyric tenor and Placido a spinto? Bright, high tenors but with more weight than a leggero tenor, which Adam's voice has been called. The leggero tenor has perhaps the lightest, highest of the tenor voices and is characterized by its flexibility and agility with quick, ornamental runs. We mainly think of tenors as having this big, rather bombastic voices, but the leggero tenor is also much prized. As for the age for operatic singers, it is possible to overstrain and damage the voice trying to sing roles that require a more mature voice. I remember Angelina talking about some of these young kids singing with an operatic sound, and how it was poor technique that could be harmful. She expressed concern about Jackie for example, if I am remembering correctly. I don't know that 26 is still too young for a female, but, patience, practice, and maturity are important when tackling certain classical songs.

Cassie... I was just listening to the AI duet again, and thought I give my opinion of Titanium duet w Angie. I think for the first time, in a long, long time. I hear the soft sweet quality of tone in Adam's voice starting .19 sec into the duet. The quality that I loved in his Brigadoon, CBTM...I think that's one of my favorite vocal quality from Adam. For some reason, Angie's voice irritates me, it too hard, too sharp and sounding very "Steely". Even when she attempts to soften the vocals, I don't like the clarity of her vocals. Lastly, her last of vibrato around 2.03 is non existent. What made this duet, was Adam's incredible ability to soften and harmonize w Angie. Then mid way thru, to bring the intensity and power of the vocals. Again, I guess it's a matter of preference of sound, but Angie's voice is not to my liking. I hope I'm not too harsh on her. Even, Adam's latest rendition of China's MW, which I absolutely loved, in particular, the ending, did not give me that pure softness from CBTM that I heard from the beginning of titanium. I thought that quality was lost but happy to hear that pure tone again. oh well, just giving my opinion, but I really feel Adam's quality vocals are truly lost on pop music. I've been using this quieter time to catch up on this thread, and I want to thank you Cassie especially, but also everyone contributing, for the wealth of information here. I'm learning a lot. Had some very basic music knowledge from my youth, but certainly not the in depth information about vocal and production, and all that is discussed here. Thank you so much for creating this thread! I'm quoting crazyoldgal's post because I had much the same reaction to Angie's voice. Have not followed AI so have not hear her sing otherwise, but my reaction to hearing her was also that I found her voice "hard", that was kind of the only description I could come up with, when she sings full out. Is it the resonance in Adam's voice that makes the difference, that gives me the goosebumps? While I really do love the duet, it is such a stark contrast to my ear, and it only makes me appreciate Adam's voice even more.
