So, we were watching The Voice last night. DH thinks Jordan is the best thing since sliced bread. I think he has a nice voice, but as has been discussed, I don't see any way he'll ever make it in anything but Christian radio. (I'm a Jeffrey fan, but I probably wouldn't buy his stuff either since I buy very little music other than Adam's). Anyhow, when I made that comment, that Jordan would probably do just fine in Christian music or by putting out an album of Christmas songs, DH immediately pulled up his performance of STL and said that that wasn't church music and that only Freddie had done it better (and he never gave two shits about Queen). Baiting me!! So I bit, and pulled up QAL's STL from the UK X-Factor show. He said "He's no Freddie." And left the room. Grrrrr.....
If I closed my eyes and just listened to Jordan's version and Adam's, I'd find Adam's voice so much more mature and controlled. I know DH is just being a twit, but still. :(
Sorry, just venting. I don't know what else I can do, since he refuses to even listen.

I have found that the best response is PITY. Pity that the person lacks the fine musical ear, the appreciation for artistry, the discrimination, to become enraptured by Adam's instrument. Can you imagine not being able to tell the difference between a tootsie roll and a Godiva chocolate? A Velvet Elvis painting and a DaVinci? A speaker on a cell phone and a surround sound theater system? These people are handicapped. Disabled. And their world is duller because of it. Pity them, and just hope they don't play their musical selections at full blast in your presence.

He does play his musical preferences full blast in my presence (Adele...). I can't play mine in his. I was feeling good that at least he wasn't turning off the car radio when GT came on, but that could still happen. (And yeah, there's a little self pity here too, sniff!). Now I'll drop it. Thanks for listening though!

Just tried to post something, got a weird error, and it disappeared... Did anyone watch the Adele concert special on NBC last night? My nks she's great. I think she's shouts. I commented that I hoped she's done work on her technique so that she doesn't hurt her voice again. Hmm, I don't know. What do you all think? This is tied in with that article above about overrated singers!
Funny too that she gets bleeped. No angel, haha!

I didn't watch Adele. Her singing hurts my voice. Literally, my throat and neck muscles do all sorts of contortions sympathetically trying to correct her straining and pushing for notes.
I know that she had problems with her voice due to poor technique, had surgery and, hopefully, got some great vocal coaching. I haven't listened to her new stuff except for what was posted above, but that was enough that I didn't want to check out more.
If she is singing correctly (talking about technique that protects the voice and creates a full sound, not making a judgment about what sounds I like the best), her voice should sound mostly clear and effortless, with power when needed. Is that what she sounds like these days?

Is that what she sounds like these days? To me she sounds the same as she ever did - strained and shouty except for the "oooo" sounds. I'm not a singer, so listening to her doesn't hurt my voice - but it hurts my ears! I try to like her. But it's hard. She seems to be an emotional mess, too. I suppose she's under a lot of pressure. It will get worse when her tour starts. ETA: she seems to have power if loudness can be any indication, but it doesn't seem effortless or clear. I notice a more nasal tone in her live singing than on her records, in the mid-high range. She can certainly hit some low notes, though not with power.

Don't like her tone, shoutyness, the Debbie downer lyrics...
