Hi, momtomany. Late night on the East Coast (and snowing). I'm also on the wrong side of the demographics for radio apparently. Also on the wrong side of the railroad tracks. My home is in NW Jersey. The local top 40 station runs Elvis Duran's show in the morning (the DJ from Z100 - Jason Derulo was his guest this morning) but its signal peters out by the time I get one town south on my way to work. It's a little funny, there are three local stations, all owned by the same group, and all part of iHeart, but the dj/assistant program director dj's the morning shift on the classic rock format station, then takes the afternoon shift at the top 40 one. I'm 50 miles west of NYC and probably 70 north of Philly, so my "home" is not in the range of any top 40 station which matters. I'll stream, I guess, but mostly I also buy the physical media.

Adam mention: Joey Cook – Michael Andrews and Gary Jules cover of “Mad World” (Donnie Darko) — Grade: B+ | Will y’all forgive me for robbing Joey of an A- just because, as an Idoloonie of the Most Ridiculous Order, I feel she should’ve left the Adam Lambert “Mad World” jersey hanging from the stadium rafters? (I know: I’m the WORST. But still, these kids need to know their history!) Taking aside the Season 8 wonderboy’s rendition (aka only cover of the song anyone needs to hear), Joey really did sound lovely — the nooks and crannies of her tone soaking up the sadness and insecurity of the lyric. tvline.com/2015/03/19/american-idol-recap-qaasim-saved-jax-quentin-clark-performances/Exactly the analogy I used last night as soon as I heard her singing that song. Retired jersey Don't care what artistry Joey exhibited while singing MAD WORLD last night. I kept waiting to FEEL something but it just left me cold. Sounded too contrived. Also, she left out so many of the lyrics. I know that she has many folks who react positively to her style-I'm just not one of them. That's what is so amazing about music. It affects us in different ways. I think back to when Adam sang that song,{I had never heard it before,} and I was stunned and so touched by the beauty of his voice and its haunting message-and I still remember my husband skulking in from the kitchen to sit down beside me and listen ...NOPE, like Jackie Robinson's #42 retired jersey in all of baseball--as Michael Slezak said, MAD WORLD belongs to Adam and no contestant, if they're smart, should ever sing that song.

Aww - - -donnamb . . . wish you could send me some snow. We're thirsty out here. It's late and you're still here!
I listen to Alice Radio in SF - and will email them soon, asking the DJs familiar to me about Adam and his new single. Just concerned about my timing; as I'm learning that timing has a place in this game.
Little local stations in my home town seem to have no influence. If they play Adam I'll rejoice! If I learn more I'll certainly change my POV.
I've registered on AliceRadio as a 15-year-old. If I'm lucky enough to be a part of any promo on their end, I'll enter with pride and the knowledge that I don't really give a flying fuck about anything but the music. The music from Adam. So there!

Forgive this post as i am tired and will ramble. I usually scroll but just had to give a shout out to Idol.
I love American Idol and will continue to watch as long as it is being aired. It gave me Adam and a lot of other singers and winners. I cannot get into The Voice mostly because of the format. You see, for me, it's not all about the judges. I like to get invested in the singers and the Voice's format does not allow me to bond with the performers. The last time i tried watching was the Tessanne Chin "season." I avidly followed that series because most of my family and friends begged me to tune in for Tessanne. I enjoyed her and was glad she won but I was upset with the way the show did not promote her properly afterward.
That is my biggest peeve with that show. Their previously stated aim is (i'm paraphrasing) that they are for entertainment and not to promote winners into successful stars. That just not work for me. They also air too many shows: reminds me of the game show Who Wants to be a Millionaire. They rode that hit into the dust real quick when they aired that thing morning, noon and night!
So, too, does the Voice saturate the programming slate to its detriment (and other reality singing competitions'). Shortly after a Voice winner gets newly minted, goes on the show's tour and puts out an album, there is another "season" of the Voice running simultaneously. This takes away fans' focus from the previous winner at a critical time when they are building support for their new album. Which results in very dismal sales and/or lack of recognition outside of ardent fans.
So, for me, until the Voice produces a proven winner AND successful Star, it is an inferior product as compared to Idol. No amount of ratings, gimmick, star judges, coaches, chairs, etc. will make it a better vehicle for performers UNTIL they have minted a truly world-recognized star. IMHO.
---
As to the Joey/Adam MW issue, i agree with other posts that Joey's was good but lacked the poignancy of Adam's version. I love like that girl, though!

So... just read that Boy George will be mentoring on Idol for '80s night. Don't kill me because I don't mean it in a shady way but seeing Boy George's photo reminds of a thought I'm having recently: Sam Smith looks like Adam and George had a baby. He's not as fabulous as his parents but Sam is the cool offspring who's into the family business. LOL. I really need to go sleep.

I'm gonna keep this thread going. Maybe we'll make it to page ten, but I have to work tomorrow.
I don't watch The Voice, or Idol - - - or any of the singing, dancing competition shows out there. I would if I could. I just don't have the days or the evenings right now. I also don't have the desire. Six years ago, in 2009, I heard Adam. I saw Adam. Since then I don't want to hear or see anyone else. Truly. NO one compares. I just can't get excited over another voice, another presence. I watch them. And then, impatient for talent, I just leave. Switch the channel, or just come upstairs and find Adamtopia.
I don't think Adam is the only great talent in this world. I yearn for more like him. By saying talents 'like him', I mean talent that is true, raw, unmanufactured . . . gifts of genius.
A genius isn't surprised by the gift. They struggle, juggling it, all their young lives. How do I process it? How do I expand it? How do I bring it into the light? How do I live with it? Well, you acknowledge and commit and be cradled and be forceful. And find a way to be grateful for this challenge to your very existence.
I'll be on the Playa come September. Where Adam found his way. Or, at least, a joy in truly realizing his one-in-a-billion gift.
We have no time to waste. On an empty, lonely thread, there is no message. Just a tiny cry, asking you to 'be'.

Funny thing about a quiet night -- it is peaceful in a way. I am happy that a talent contestant sang a song, and every article about it recalls Adam's performance of that song from 6 years ago. Over 100 news mentions of Adam. I am happy that Nile Rodgers was the Idol mentor and there are several prominent news report that he recently worked with Adam. I am happy that with Glee's last show airing tonight and there are several long articles with memorable Glee performances and Adam is in every one. It was a quiet day -- but a good day.
