I posted this in yesterday's thread, but it never got answered.. Maybe this is a better place to ask.
This question was posted on mjs.. I was wondering the same thing about GT numbers when it comes as a free download.. anyone know the answer?
WehoScott • 3 hours ago I just checked iTunes (via my iPhone) and Ghost Town is #62 overall and #24 in pop. Here's my question (which has been asked and answered a zillion times but I never remember). If people are pre-ordering the album and automatically getting the single now as part of the preorder, is it counting toward the song on the chart today? I seem to recall that when you buy a single then "complete the album" the numbers are re-adjusted down for the single sale and up for the album sale (i.e. there's no double dipping single + album for those numbers), but what about these cases where the lead single automatically comes with the pre-order? Could this sales scenario stunt the soundscan numbers for the single (since so many will be bundled with the album)?

There are a lot of album releases on June 16, but probably no one big enough to keep Adam from #1 altho Nate Ruess could give him a run for the money!!

As I understand it, if you buy the single and then buy the album, the single will count until you actually buy the album, and then it is subtracted. In this case, what you have to do is this - if you buy the deluxe album, then buy the single from the regular or clean album, and it will count. And, yes, the free song may stop some people from buying the single, but probably not fans. The label is undoubtedly happier if you buy the album and not just the single.

Okay thanks for the explanation. I was wondering if that would affect single sale numbers.. Also, is it typical for adds to come a week after a song is released, although I know there were 4 adds before then? I've forgotten the whole process since last time.

Radio stations can add at anytime they want. However, the official add date for GT is 4/28 and many will add then and it looks good when a whole bunch of stations add at once. Also, some stations do automatic adds if they play a song more that 7 times in a week. Other stations play a song a lot but never actually add it officially.

www.radiowavemonitor.com/rtf/2014/r100_042215.aspxMidWeek: Ellie Goulding finished at #1 for a third day, Tove Lo, Adam Lambert post top netcast addsAdam Lambert, who struggled a bit on the charts with his most recent records, had a strong opening frame for Ghost Town, grabbing 10 new stations on its second day at radio. After two days, the single is active on 16 netcasts, which generated nearly 500,000 single day impressions.

I understand that iTunes numbers will not be counted as chart numbers but will be included in the Billboard charts as sales on 6/16 - am I correct? What if I cancel my pre-order on iTunes some time before 6/16 and order again on 6/16? Will this help with charting on the drop date?IDK how Amazon treats the pre-orders...
