Ah okay - thank you! I haven't thought about his songs being PC or not ... politcially correct: agreeing with the idea that people should be careful to not use language or behave in a way that could offend a particular group of people politcal correctness: conforming to a belief that language and practices which could offend political sensibilities (as in matters of sex or race) should be eliminated Urban Dictionary: A way that we speak in America so we don't offend whining pussies. I dunno... I agree with you, augenpoesie. I never thought about the issue of Adam's songs (especially from Trespassing) being politically correct or not. They seem pretty safe to me! If he's gonna be less PC, then what would he be talking about in his songs? When I think of offensive or controversial lyrics, I always think about most rap music. (and I use the term "music" lightly) bossip.com/756713/say-what-top-10-most-controversial-rap-lyrics/1/

The political correctness in America is a beast of its own I think. It's something a lot of Europeans are irritated or puzzled about... Not that I think that political correctness is something bad, I really think people should give their best not offending other people or hurt their feelings by saying something bad or offensive. But it should be well dosed IMHO. What seems strange for me is for example that when there is a religious holiday like Christmas or Hannukah or Eastern, I often see the addition "for those who celebrate". That's something you'd never see here in Europe. It's clear that if you wish a bunch of people "Merry Christmas" that you only direct it to the ones who celebrate it, there's no need to point it out separately. And seoulmate, I think he said: "some real stuff -- stuff that's not always so easy to talk about, not so PC." So I guess he's hitting some hot topics on TOH, which I would love to hear! I love genuine lyrics!

The political correctness in America is a beast of its own I think. It's something a lot of Europeans are irritated or puzzled about... There are plenty of Americans irritated about it as well. Our pendulum will swing, but not soon enough to suit me. It's gotten ridiculous when perceived slights rule our speech patterns. Anyone who takes the time to look hard enough will always be able to find something to be offended by and I think we give these pedantic nitpickers way too much power. Intent matters. In other words-

Neil Gaimnan posted this on his Tumbrl like 2 years ago:
"I was reading a book (about interjections, oddly enough) yesterday which included the phrase “In these days of political correctness…” talking about no longer making jokes that denigrated people for their culture or for the colour of their skin. And I thought, “That’s not actually anything to do with ‘political correctness’. That’s just treating other people with respect.”
Which made me oddly happy. I started imagining a world in which we replaced the phrase “politically correct” wherever we could with “treating other people with respect”, and it made me smile.
You should try it. It’s peculiarly enlightening.
I know what you’re thinking now. You’re thinking “Oh my god, that’s treating other people with respect gone mad!”
IMHO this is really simple.
